MCM College: UM Mental Health Awareness Month – “Are You on a Date?” Sexual Health Talk
On 24th October, 2024, Moon Chun Memorial College, University of Macau invited Macau AIDS Care Association to hold a sexual health talk entitled “Are You on a Date?” with about 30 students in attendance. Social worker, Ms. Leong Chi Ka combined her lecture with a video presentation, and interactive Q&A session to raise students’ awareness and concerns regarding “dating violence”, “online dating safety tips”, “sexual health”, and “AIDS”. This helped students establish correct sexual values and increase their knowledge of AIDS prevention and treatment. Finally, Leong urged everyone to eliminate the stigma associated with AIDS, accept and care for those infected with HIV, and create a friendly social environment.
“This talk gave me a deeper understanding of dating safety. The practical tips provided by the social worker have enabled me to protect myself more assertively, while also enhancing my understanding of AIDS. This knowledge is very important for everyone, allowing us to enjoy dating more confidently and safely.” – Yoyo Choi
“This was a very meaningful talk. I learned some relevant knowledge about AIDS, including its transmission routes and the drugs effective against the HIV virus. This allows us to view AIDS more rationally and comprehensively, avoiding blind discrimination against AIDS patients and creating a more friendly and inclusive atmosphere.” – Daisy Deng
“Although I already understood the transmission routes and preventive measures of AIDS, this talk provided new knowledge about blocking the virus and treating AIDS patients. The event was relaxed and enjoyable, and I also learned a lot about sexual health, which was very beneficial.” – Rosalie Shi
“People often associate AIDS with immoral behaviors, such as promiscuity and drug use, leading to the stigmatization of AIDS. This causes patients to possibly refuse testing and treatment out of fear of discrimination. However, through this talk, I realized that we easily overlook other infection routes, such as mother-to-child transmission and blood transfusions. This made me understand that daily contact does not lead to infection, so we should care more about AIDS patients, helping them face life and treatment more positively.” – Harry Zhu
