In line with the mutual agreement signed with Xiuzhong College (Xiuzhong) of Tsinghua University in 2023, Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College (HFPJC) of the University of Macau conducted a successful visit to Xiuzhong in May 2025, followed by Xiuzhong’s visit to the University of Macau in January 2025. This annual exchange program aimed to strengthen collaboration and foster deeper connections between Xiuzhong and HFPJC.

With a warm welcome from Xiuzhong’s staff and students for HFPJC delegates’ arrival at Tsinghua University, an opening remarks were given by Professor Liu, Deputy College Master of Xiuzhong, who provided a comprehensive overview of Tsinghua University’s collegiate system, elucidated Xiuzhong’s distinctive educational philosophy, and detailed its innovative curriculum design. In response, Professor Hui, College Master of HFPJC, presented the University of Macau’s overarching educational model and shared valuable insights into the specific approach to collegiate education cultivated at HFPJC, establishing productive sharing in both sessions.

Beyond these introductory sessions, the delegates also attended a series of informative and enriching activities, including interactive workshops conducted at Tsinghua’s iCenter, providing hands-on exposure to cutting-edge technological pedagogy, and a guided campus tour that offered an immersive exploration of Tsinghua’s historic grounds and dynamic academic facilities, showcasing its vibrant learning ecosystem.

A particular session featured a dedicated seminar on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), where students from both colleges engaged in meaningful cross-cultural dialogue, exchanging perspectives on sustainability initiatives implemented according to their living experiences. Another highlight was a special sharing session by a Tsinghua alumnus from the China Development Bank, who discussed emerging trends in national development; his address critically examined the integration of artificial intelligence within environmental protection sectors, explored the Environment-Oriented Development (EOD) framework as a transformative approach to ecological-economic balance, and contextualized China’s current sustainable development priorities, offering the delegation profound, practical insights into contemporary national trajectories and emphatically underscoring the indispensable role of interdisciplinary education in complex and real-world challenges.

The visit provided the HFPJC delegation with practical insights into China’s development and the importance of interdisciplinary education in tackling global challenges. Through the informal gatherings, meaningful cultural exchanges, to structured cultural engagements with Tsinghua staff and students, the HFPJC delegation strengthened interpersonal bonds, established solid friendships, and academic cooperation and future collaborative ventures.
In summary, this exchange programme not only reinforced existing academic and collegiate bonds between Xiuzhong and HFPJC but also highlighted the shared commitment to educational excellence and sustainable development. These interactions strengthened relationships and laid a strong foundation for future collaboration.
