From June 6 to 14, 2025, faculty and students from the Cheong Kun Lun College of the University of Macau (UM) and Lanzhou University (LZU) jointly conducted a study program entitled “Embracing the Silk Road Spirit, Exploring the Yellow River Civilization.” Over nine days, students from both institutions journeyed deep into the Hexi Corridor, visiting Lanzhou, Wuwei, Zhangye, Jiayuguan, and Dunhuang to conduct on-site investigations into Silk Road history and Chinese civilization.
During the itinerary, participants appreciated national treasures including the “Galloping Horse Treading on a Flying Swallow” at Gansu Provincial Museum; contemplated the cultural profundity along the Yellow River Scenic Belt; explored the excavation site of the “Galloping Horse” at Wuwei’s Leitai Han Tomb; appreciated ancient military wisdom at Jiayuguan Pass of the Great Wall; completed a desert trek through Singing Sand Mountains (Mingsha Shan); gained profound insights into cultural heritage value through in-depth interpretations of Dunhuang’s Mogao Caves; strengthened cross-regional camaraderie via desert camping activities.
The program culminated in a Silk Road culture sharing session at Lanzhou University, where students exchanged insights. Through field studies, this initiative deepened Macau youth’s cultural identification with Chinese civilization; solidified the foundation for academic collaboration between Macau universities and mainland China’s esteemed institutions; facilitated cultural dialogue between the overland and maritime Silk Roads.
