[FED] FED-CLLE Symposium: “Symposium on Empirical Research in International Chinese Language Education” Successfully Held at the University of Macau

The Centre for Language and Literacy Education (CLLE) of the Faculty of Education at the University of Macau successfully held the “Symposium on Empirical Research in International Chinese Language Education” on 28 November 2025 at the Theatre of the Student Activity Centre. The symposium brought together distinguished scholars from Beijing, Zhejiang, Hong Kong SAR, and Macao SAR to exchange insights on cutting-edge issues in international Chinese language education. The event attracted teachers, researchers, and students from various institutions.
The symposium opened with an opening remark by Prof. Wei GE, Vice Rector (Research) of the University of Macau. Prof. Ge highlighted the global significance of Chinese language education and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting research development and academic collaboration in this field. This was followed by remarks from Prof. Lianghuo FAN, Dean and Director of the Centre for STEM and AI Education of the Faculty of Education of the University of Macau, Prof. Fan emphasized the growing importance of empirical research and interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing Chinese language education, especially in an era where technology continues to reshape teaching and learning practices. Afterwards, Mr. Yongxian LI, Deputy Director of the General of the Department of Education and Youth Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government, Macao SAR and Prof. Wei GE, Vice Rector (Research) presented the souvenirs to all keynote speakers.
The symposium invited six distinguished scholars to deliver keynote speeches, covering a wide range of important areas including language acquisition, language assessment, research methodology, and the application of artificial intelligence in language education. Prof. Chun LAI from The University of Hong Kong shared her research on the extramural social media experience of ethnic minority students in Hong Kong, examining how such engagement influences their acculturation and Chinese language learning. Prof. Hongbiao YIN from The Chinese University of Hong Kong discussed the methodological shift from systematic review to theorization, highlighting the possibilities and feasibility of developing theoretical frameworks through research synthesis. Prof. Haiwei ZHANG from Peking University introduced recent advancements in Hanzi and word size tests for Chinese as Second Language (CSL) learners, demonstrating new insights into language proficiency assessment.
Prof. Peijian SUN from Zhejiang University explored the use of AI conversational tools in supporting Chinese speaking development, analyzing the oral performance patterns exhibited by learners when interacting with chatbots. Prof. Wei XU from City University of Macau presented findings from research on Thai learners of Chinese, discussing how artificial intelligence interacts with learner motivation and the mediational pathways linking ideal/ought-to selves with learning attitudes. Prof. Yang GONG from University of Macau discussed the teaching and learning of Chinese as a Heritage Language (CHL), introducing key linguistic features and pedagogical considerations of CHL learners, and offering new perspectives for the development of heritage language education.
In the closing session, Prof. Shulin YU, Assistant Dean (Student Affairs) and Director of the Centre for Language and Literacy Education of the Faculty of Education of the University of Macau expressed their commitment to continuing the promotion of research and collaboration in international Chinese language education and to hosting more high-level academic activities that contribute to the development of Chinese language education worldwide. The symposium was concluded successfully with a closing session marking the end of a full day of academic exchange.

2025年11月28日,澳門大學教育學院語言教育中心於學生活動中心劇場成功舉辦 “國際中文教育實證研究高端論壇”。本次論壇匯聚來自北京、浙江、香港及澳門多所高校的知名學者,圍繞國際中文教育的前沿議題進行交流與分享,吸引了眾多教師、研究人員及學生參與。
澳門大學副校長(研究)葛偉教授首先致開幕辭,他肯定國際中文教育在全球語言教育中的重要性,並表示澳門大學將持續大力支持相關研究與學術合作。接著,澳門大學教育學院院長兼科技與人工智能教育中心主任范良火教授致辭,他指出在科技與教育深度融合的時代背景下,推動實證研究、深化跨領域合作是提升中文教育高質量發展的重要方向。隨後中央人民政府駐澳門特別行政區聯絡辦公室教育與青年工作部副部長李勇先副部長及葛偉副校長(研究)向論壇主講嘉賓們致送紀念品,場面熱烈。
論壇邀請六位學者發表主題演講,內容涵蓋語言習得、語言測評、研究方法以及人工智能在語言教育中的應用等多個重要領域。香港大學賴春教授分享了對香港少數族裔學生課外社交媒體使用情況的研究,探討其如何影響學生的文化適應與中文學習,並從社會語言學與跨文化適應的角度說明課外媒介接觸在語言學習與文化融合中產生的動態影響。香港中文大學尹弘飆教授從研究方法論角度出發,討論如何從系統性綜述進一步推展至理論化的可能性與可行性,同時說明跨研究證據如何促成可推演、可擴展的教育理論框架。北京大學張海威教授介紹了其研究團隊在漢字與詞語量測試方面的進展,呈現語言能力評估的最新探索,並強調測評工具在語言能力判準中的關鍵作用,探討字詞量對國際中文學習者語言發展的意義。
浙江大學孫培健教授探討了人工智能對話工具在中文口語學習中的應用,分析學習者與聊天機器人互動時所呈現的口語發展特點,並從二語口語習得角度說明人工智能所提供即時回饋與沉浸式輸出環境的潛在價值。澳門城市大學徐威教授分享了泰國中文學習者的研究,討論人工智能與學習動機之間的關聯與影響機制,同時揭示科技介入如何影響學習者自我形象與學習態度的形成。澳門大學龔陽教授聚焦中文作為傳承語的教學,介紹相關學習者的語言特點與教學考量,並從傳承語教育視角探討家庭語言背景、文化身份與課室策略如何共同影響傳承語的維繫與發展,為傳承語教育的發展提供了新的視角。
論壇閉幕式由澳門大學教育學院助理院長 (學生事務) 兼語言教育中心主任于書林教授主持, 他表示未來將繼續推動國際中文教育相關研究與合作,並期望透過更多高水平的論壇與活動,促進中文教育在全球範圍內的蓬勃發展。閉幕式順利落幕,為當日的學術交流畫上圓滿句號。
