From January 20 to 23, 2026, Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College at the University of Macau (hereinafter “HFPJC”) and Xiuzhong College at Tsinghua University (hereinafter “Xiuzhong”) jointly hosted a four-day in-depth exchange program. More than 20 staff and students from Xiuzhong joined their counterparts from HFPJC on a cross-regional, cross-campus journey through Macau, blending academic discussion, cultural experiences, financial practice, and environmental sustainability. Centred on the theme “Sustainable·Future,” the program featured on-site visits, thematic seminars, cultural exchanges, and campus interactions, aiming to strengthen collegiate ties between the two colleges and to provide young students with a multidimensional platform to broaden their global perspectives and engage in social responsibility.

On the first day, the group departed from the N1 Guest House at the University of Macau, guided by HFPJC student leader Mr Tan Chen, for a campus tour. HFPJC Master Professor Stanley Hui Sai Chuen then hosted a welcoming ceremony, extending a warm welcome to the 15-member delegation from Xiuzhong College, led by Assistant Professor Yan Liuxin. Professor Hui introduced the University of Macau’s residential college education model, facilities and the college’s educational philosophy, initiating a relaxed yet insightful dialogue that laid a solid foundation for the exchange.

In the afternoon, the group of 25 faculty and students visited the Bank of China (Macau Branch), where they were warmly received by Deputy General Manager Kuan Io Chun, Terry and Deputy Director Xu Yue. Ms Gui Lin from the bank delivered a panel titled “Application of Global Networks and RMB Internationalisation Tools in Green Overseas Expansion Models,” followed by in-depth discussions with several business managers. The exchange focused on green finance, sustainable investment, and cross-border economic development. Students actively asked questions, demonstrating their keen interest and thoughtful engagement with practical aspects of green finance.

On the second day, the program expanded into Sino-Portuguese trade and regional cooperation. The group visited Banco Nacional Ultramarino (BNU) and the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute, and was welcomed by the General Manager, Lawrence Kong, from BNU, and representatives of the institute, gaining insights into the roles of Portuguese-speaking financial institutions and government agencies in Sino-Portuguese economic and trade cooperation. A focused discussion on “Risk Assessment Models and Business Logic in Green Cross-Border Operations” allowed students from both colleges to share unique perspectives on sustainable investment and risk management, while exploring how youth can contribute innovation and leadership within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and Sino-Portuguese collaboration.

The following day, the focus shifted to environmental practices. The group visited key facilities coordinated and managed by Direcção dos Serviços de Protecção Ambiental (DSPA, 環境保護局), including the Coloane Ecological Reserve, the Pac On Electronic and Electrical Equipment Recycling Facility, and the Ilha Verde Cross-Border Industrial Zone Wastewater Treatment Plant. Students engaged in direct dialogue with the staff, experiencing firsthand the operation and social value of environmental infrastructure. This hands-on exposure deepened their understanding of sustainable development principles and provided practical insight into Macao’s innovative practices and collaborative mechanisms in ecological protection and resource recycling.

On the final day, a seminar was held at HFPJC. Student leaders from both Xiuzhong and HFPJC Colleges shared experiences on college life, student organisation operations, and personal growth journeys. They also exchanged ideas on the future direction of the college system, cross-cultural adaptation, and youth leadership development, sparking rich educational insights and potential for future collaboration.

This exchange program not only strengthened academic and cultural ties between the two colleges but also offered students valuable opportunities to engage with real-world issues in sustainable finance, environmental protection, and regional cooperation. It inspired their concern for global challenges and motivated them to take action. Moving forward, University of Macau’s Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College and Tsinghua University’s Xiuzhong College will continue to expand the scope and forms of their exchange, encouraging more youth to participate in cross-regional and cross-cultural practices, and jointly cultivating the next generation of leaders with a global vision and a strong sense of social responsibility.
