Use of New Technology: ICTO implements New All-Flash Storage System and Green IT data center
善用新科技:ICTO投入新的全閃存儲系統及綠色IT技術數據中心
隨著網上教學活動增加以及更多的行政資訊系統投入使用,儲存數據日益增長,舊有的儲存系統已無法滿足不斷增長的需求。為應對此挑戰,資訊及通科科技部於2023年初啟動了一項儲存升級計劃以及更新電池儲能系統,採用全快閃存儲架構,它能提升整體儲存空間及效能,並包括: 提升儲存性能: 該方案應用了華為公司最新一代的全快閃集中式儲存產品,通過深度整合現有的系統虛擬化平台(system virtualization platform),從而建立一套靈活及具操作性的雙活(active-active)數據中心,確保關鍵服務的持續可用性,最大限度地減少停機時間,提高生產力。尤其於今年暑假期間進行的兩次數據中心電力維護期間,即使其中一個數據中心停止服務,但ICTO絕大部分主要資訊應用系統仍能繼續如常運作,向用戶提供不間斷的資訊服務。此外,在採用了全快閃存儲技術後,性能得到顯著提升,在使用了超低時延的NVMe閃存技術之下,讓用戶使用如檔案分享服務或UMMoodle時,能切實感受到更快的存取速度。 可擴展性和靈活性:現時儲存系統提供300TB的可用容量,並備有可擴展空間,能滿足未來的數據增長需求。為具成本效益和完整產品生命周期的系統。 縮小物理空間:升級後的新儲存系統佔用的物理空間更小,可以構建更高密度的儲存系統,提升資源利用率。 降低能耗:新架構相較之前的系統能耗更低,有助於節能和環境保護,以達致可持續發展。 提高冷卻效率:升級後的儲存系統需要較少的冷卻,降低冷卻成本,提高數據中心的能源效率。 此外,為了提升數據中心的基礎設施效能並達成綠色能源的目標,資訊及通訊科技部已在主要數據中心部署了新一代模塊化不間斷電源系統。該系統使用的是磷酸鐵鋰電池,它以其卓越的安全性、長壽命以及低占用空間的特性,為數據中心提供了120分鐘的備用電力。 結論:

With the increasing demand for online teaching activities and the significant growth of utilization of administrative information systems, the data storage demands have grown exponentially while the legacy storage systems could no longer meet the demands. To address this challenge, ICTO initiated a upgrade project in early 2023, implementing an all-flash storage architecture with new UPS system, to enhance overall storage capacity and performance, with the following features: Enhanced Storage Performance: The solution adopts the latest Huawei OceanStor all-flash storage products, establishes a complete and flexibe active-active architecture through integrating with the existing system virtualization platform. The new implementation ensures continuous availability of critical applications, minimizing downtime and improving productivity. During the two major power maintenance periods of the two data centers during summer vacation this year, even if one of the data centers was out of service, all ICTO critical information systems can still continue to operate normally, providing users with uninterrupted services. In addition, after adopting the all-flash storage technology, the performance has been significantly improved. With low latency NVMe flash technology, users can experience faster access speed when using file sharing services or UMMoodle. Scalability and Flexibility: The centralized storage system offers 300TB of available capacity and can be expanded to meet future data growth needs. This system significantly improves cost-effectiveness and completes product lifecycle. Reduced Physical Space: The upgraded system takes up less physical space, can build a higher-density storages and thus optimize resource utilization. Lower Power Consumption: The new architecture consumes less power compared to previous systems, contributing to energy savings and environmental protection, and achieve sustainable development. Improved Cooling Efficiency: The upgraded storage systems require less cooling, resulting in reduced cooling costs and improved energy efficiency of our data center.
Furthermore, in order to improve the infrastructure performance of data centers and achieve the goal of green energy, ICTO has deployed a new generation of modular UPS in the primary data center. The system uses lithium iron phosphate batteries, which provide 120 minutes of backup power for the data center due to its excellent safety, long lifespan and small footprint.
