IOTSC Talk Series: Smart Loads for AC and DC Microgrids with High Renewables

Dear Colleagues and Students,
The State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City would like to invite you to join our “IOTSC Talk Series” on 27/09/2023 (Wednesday). We are pleased to invite Prof. Minghao WANG as the speaker.

Smart Loads for AC and DC Microgrids with High Renewables
Speaker: Prof. Minghao WANG, Assistant Professor, IOTSC
Date: 27/09/2023 (Wednesday)
Time: 16:00 – 17:00
Language: English
Venue: N21-5/F Exhibition Hall

Abstract:
To curtail carbon emissions, the global authorities are introducing high renewables to their power grids as a clean replacement of fossil fuel energy sources. However, intermittent renewables compromise the generation-demand balance and challenge the conventional “generation-following-demand” control paradigm. Recent research has demonstrated that the load demand response can better cope with the fluctuating renewable generation via enabling the “load-following-generation” mechanism. In this talk, a demand response technology named “electric spring” will be introduced. Its circuit operating principle, hardware implementation, control and application in AC and DC microgrids will be elaborated.
