The Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences (IAS) and the UM Library extend a warm invitation to you to participate in the Boya Book Launch: “Affective Spaces as Method” scheduled on 27 March 2024 (Wed). We invited Prof. Liu Shih-Diing from the Department of Communication, FSS, and Senior Research Fellow of IAS as the speaker. We are also delighted to have Professor Wang Di, Associate Director of IAS and Chair Professor of FAH, as the discussant, and Professor Lin Shaoyang, Head of Academic Programme and Publication of IAS and Distinguished Professor of FAH, as the moderator for this event. Abstract: Although emotions play an essential role in shaping our identities and formulating public culture, their implications are poorly understood. This presentation discusses why and how emotions open up new avenues for understanding contemporary social life. It will contextualize affective space and underscore why the concept holds promise for innovative social research beyond China.
