UM Library and HFPJC Successfully Held The “Rare Book Conservation and Culture of the Rare Book in China” – Student Achievement Exhibition and Closing Ceremony

“古籍保護與文化傳承系列課程”學生成果展及結業禮圓滿結束

The University of Macau Library (UM Library) and the Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College (HFPJC) jointly organised the “Rare Book Conservation and Culture of the Rare Book in China”. The exhibition of student achievements and the closing ceremony of this course were held on May 13, 2024, at the Painting and Calligraphy Gallery (書畫坊) on the second floor of the University Library. Dr. Wu Jianzhong, the University Librarian, presented certificates to nine students who met the course assessment requirements. The course instructor, Mr. Staty Chan, College Liaison Librarian, and resident fellows from the HFPJC, Dr. Andrew Lao and Ms. Sara Chang, attended the ceremony. The exhibition showcased a total of 24 student achievements, including rubbings, thread-bound bookbinding, and colouring of ancient maps from the East and West, covering the technical products of practical work in the course.

In response to the learning interests and needs of students at the University of Macau for Chinese culture and to enhance cooperation between the University Library and the residential colleges, the UM Library and HFPJC jointly organised the “Rare Book Conservation and Culture of the Rare Book in China” for the university’s 4-in-1 collaborative education model. The courses focused on the preservation of ancient books and ancient cultural heritage. The content of the courses included an overview of ancient Chinese and Western books in the University of Macau Library collection, Chinese rubbing techniques, The History of Traditional Chinese bookbinding and publishing, restoration and preservation of ancient books, map-making of ancient maps and historical culture, as well as cultural heritage preservation in Macao. Through classroom theory, workshops, and field trips, the courses provided students with a foundational and systematic understanding of ancient books and their preservation. The course offered six classes with a total of eighteen hours and attracted over 200 participants from the college, receiving good feedback from the students.

澳門大學圖書館與霍英東珍禧書院合辦「古籍保護與文化傳承系列課程」,此課程的學生成果展及結業禮於2024年5月13日在大學圖書館二樓書畫坊舉行,由圖書館吳建中館長向九位符合課程評核要求的九位學生頒發證書,課程導師陳智榮館員,霍英東珍禧書院導師劉振釗及曾結萍出席觀禮。展覽共展出24件學生成果,包括傳拓、線裝書籍裝幀、東西古地圖上色,囊括課程中實踐工作的技術成品。

為回應書院學生對中華優秀傳統文化的學習興趣與需要,增強大學圖書館與書院的合作,體現大學四位一體、以學生為本的全人教育理念,澳門大學圖書館與霍英東珍禧書院首次聯合舉辦「古籍保護與文化傳承系列課程」,課程以古籍保護和古籍文化為主題,以澳門大學圖書館藏中西古籍概述、中國傳拓技藝、中國歷代書籍裝幀出版、古籍修復與保護、古地圖製圖及歷史文化以及澳門文物保護為課程內容,透過課堂理論、工作坊與參觀考察,為書院學生在對古籍的了解與保護方面提供基礎系統性的認識。本系列課程共六堂課十八個課時,在書院吸引超200人次參與,獲得院生熱烈反饋。
