UM Dragon Boat Team got the 2 silvers and fourth place (second prize) at “2024 International Elite Universities Water Sports Open”

The “2024 International Elite Universities Water Sports Open” was held on 30 May – 2 Jun at Hangzhou. Organised by Zhejiang University and Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture Radio Television and Tourism, the event attracted 25 teams from world-renowned universities at home and abroad, including Harvard University, Yale University, University of California (Berkeley), University of Cambridge, Nanyang Technological University, University of Tokyo, Yonsei University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of Macau, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Nanjing University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, University of Science and Technology of China, Shandong University, Hangzhou Dianzi University, Huzhou University, Zhejiang University of Technology, Zhejiang University of Science & Technology, Zhejiang Agriculture & Forestry University, Zhejiang Ocean University.

Twelve members of the UM Dragon Boat Team took part in the competition. Cheong Sin Yi(FED) finished second in women’s kayak single 200m. Cheong Sin Yi and Chan Kuan Io(FBA/HFPJC) took the second place in mixed kayak double 200m. The team also won the fourth place (second prize) in the dragon boat 12-atheletes 200m race.  In addition, UM students and faculty engaged in a science outreach activity during the event and discussed the youth & water sports conference with other participants.
