人文學院英語中心EWCC學生活動:“The Way You Talk and What It Says About You” (3月15日) & "Impromptu Speech" (3月16日)

Dear UM Students,

The English Writing and Communication Centre (EWCC), English Language Centre (ELC) of FAH, invites you to two student events under EWCC March’s “Communication Month” as follows:

Event 1: “The Way You Talk and What It Says About You” + Follow-up Competition

This workshop aims to help students break down what makes a speech (and consequently a speaker) engaging and credible. Students will come away with a better understanding of how they can improve their public speaking.

There will be a follow-up competition which will give students an immediate platform to use their newly obtained knowledge in practice. Winning students will be awarded book coupons.

About the guest speaker:

Ms. Nash Ilagan is a three-time champion of the Macau-wide English Speaking Competition. Nash is now a co-coach of the Public Speaking Team of UM and has guided students to become finalists and champions in different contests. Aside from the university level, Nash privately coaches primary and secondary students. Outside UM, Nash is also a primary school teacher.

Event 2: Impromptu Speech

An impromptu speech is a speech given with little or no predetermination and preparation. In preparation, it requires speakers to focus on the given topics, search for relevant information, and organize their thoughts in little given time. The presentation requires students to deliver their points of view along with supporting information.

This workshop can practice students’ abilities to organize and deliver their thoughts and ideas in English with limited preparation. Participants will also reflect on each other’s points of view.
