Dear colleagues and students,

Quantum information research promises to revolutionise key technologies in areas such as communications and computing, and will have an impact on everyone’s life and work in the future. The Feature Stories column of this issue of My UM ‘s focuses on the Quantum Information Research Group of the Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering, exploring how its members are developing new ways of processing information using the principles of quantum mechanics and the potential applications of these discoveries(Click here to read the article).

In the People Stories column, Cai Tainji, associate dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and professor in the Department of Sociology, talks about his interdisciplinary journey and how he uses computational sociology as a ‘microscope’ to examine social issues and listen to the voices of society through data (Click here to read the article).
