Dear UM Students,

The English Writing and Communication Centre (EWCC), English Language Centre (ELC) of FAH, invites you to two new student events under EWCC March’s “Communication Month” as follows: 

Event 1: “Debate and Negotiation in a Professional Setting” + Follow-up Competition

This workshop will introduce the practice of negotiation and debate in a professional setting. Students may take away communication skills for having constructive verbal discussions in a variety of formal or professional settings.

There will be a follow-up competition which will give students an immediate platform to use their newly obtained knowledge in practice. Winning students will be awarded book coupons.

Date: 22 March 2023 (Wednesday)

Time: 17:30-19:00; Venue: E6-2102

Number of participants: 30 UM students

Target Participants: All UM students

Level(s): Students of all levels of English proficiency are welcome to join

About the guest:

Mr. Emanuel Roth Soares earned his Bachelor’s degree in law at the University of Macau and is now a lawyer in MdME Lawyers. He is also the coordinator of MdME Venture. He is active in advising on and coordinating both local and cross-border M&A projects and local advisory work in relation to Hong Kong Stock Exchange Listings. Mr. Soares has experience in assisting Macau-based private equity funds in their structuring, operations and investments. He also works with government and private entities – including startup incubators and other support institutions – in providing ongoing pro bono support to local innovators and startup projects.

Event 2: Effective Persuasion in Presentation

Presentation is one of the main tasks of college students, and most of these presentations involve persuasion.

In this workshop, students will learn about specific skills to improve their persuasiveness in public speaking, especially the strategies to convince their audience to believe in them or take certain actions. Students will also have the opportunity to present their persuasive speech on given topics in different settings and have fun talking time with their peers!
