UM Dragon Boat Team participated in the “2025 Macau University Dragon Boat Blessing Ceremony”
 

To promote traditional culture and foster exchange and cooperation among higher education institutions, the Macau Student Affairs Association 澳門學生事務協會 (MSAA) organized the “2025 Macau University Dragon Boat Blessing Ceremony” for the first time at the Nam Van Lake Water Sports Centre on 26 April. 

5 higher education institutes will be participating in the “Macau Dragon Boat Race 澳門國際龍舟賽” this coming May, namely

  • University of Macau
  • Macao Polytechnic University
  • Macau University of Science and Technology
  • City University of Macau
  • Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau

More than 150 students, faculty members and coaches had participated in the ceremony.

Attended guests included:

  1. Ms. Cen Jiayi, Director of the Higher Education Division of the Education and Youth Work Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R. (中央政府駐澳門特別行政區聯絡辦公室教育與青年工作部高校處岑嘉儀處長)
  2. Ms. Lei Im Kei, Acting Director of the Department of Students of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region Education and Youth Development Bureau (澳門特別行政區政府教育及青年發展局學生廳李艷琪代廳長)
  3. Mr. Chen Kai Feng, Director of the Sports Association Support Division of the Sports Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government (澳門特別行政區政府體育局體育社團輔助處陳凱風處長)
  4. Mr. Lai Pak Leng, President of the China-Macau Dragon Boat Association (中國澳門龍舟總會賴百齡會長)

Representatives from MSAA and participating institutions included:

  1. Prof. Mok Kai Meng, Vice Rector for Student Affairs of the University of Macau (澳門大學莫啓明學生事務副校長)
  2. Prof. Leong Man Wai, Assistant Vice-President of Macau University of Science and Technology (澳門科技大學梁文慧協理副校長)
  3. Prof. Ng San Fan, Dean of Macao Polytechnic University (澳門理工大學吳新凡院長)
  4. Ms. Lei Wei In, Executive Officer of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (澳門鏡湖護理學院李衛燕主任)
  5. Mr. Chang Ka Hei from the Student Affairs Office of City University of Macau (澳門城市大學學生事務處張嘉熙先生)
  6. Ms. Wong Ka Weng, President of the Macau Student Affairs Association (澳門學生事務協會黃嘉穎會長)

The event featured traditional rituals such as incense offering, eye-dotting, and sprinkling of “dragon head grass,” symbolizing blessings and high hopes from all sectors of society for the dragon boat sport. Subsequently, the participating athletes launched the dragon boats into the water amid an enthusiastic atmosphere, showcasing the youthful energy and team spirit of Macao’s higher education athletes.

The successful hosting of this Dragon Boat Launching Ceremony marks the active exploration and breakthroughs of Macau’s higher education institutions in sports activities, boosting morale for the upcoming Macau International Dragon Boat Races. It is hoped that in the coming season, UM Dragon Boat will perform exceptionally well in the competition and strive for outstanding achievements.
