Abstract

This presentation explores the evolving landscape of direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales in regenerative medicine (RM), tracing its development across three distinct waves. The first wave, often described as stem cell tourism, involved patients traveling abroad to access unproven and loosely regulated stem cell interventions. This presentation will introduce a third wave, examine the socio-technical and commercial drivers behind its growth, and critically analyze the legal and ethical challenges it raises, including concerns around safety, efficacy, informed consent, consumer protection, and regulatory gaps.
