Two UM Student Teams Achieve Excellent Results at the ACM Hong Kong Programming Contest

Two student teams from the Department of Computer and Information Science at the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau (UM), participated in the ACM Hong Kong Programming Contest 2025 as an official team and an observer team respectively. Both teams delivered outstanding performances, drawing widespread attention. Notably, the observer team claimed the championship with exceptional strength, while the official team successfully solved two problems, showcasing solid foundational skills and excellent teamwork.

The annual event, organized by the Association for Computing Machinery Hong Kong Chapter, was held on Saturday, 7 June 2025, at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Modeled after the prestigious ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) —often referred to as the “Olympics of Computing”— the competition adheres to the same rigorous format, emphasizing teamwork, algorithmic thinking, and problem-solving under time constraints. Each team composed of three members who were given four hours to solve six challenging algorithmic problems. The contest attracted multiple university teams from across Hong Kong and Macau. 

Under the guidance of Prof. Xiaowei Wu, Ye Wang, Leong Hou U, along with PhD students Haolong Li and Zehan Lin from the Department of Computer and Information Science, the two UM teams represented Macau in the competition. The official team “icy_firely” consisted of UM undergraduate students Rongjia Zhang, Miaoyue Gao, and Cheang Ngou Hin. Competing on behalf of Macau, they successfully solved two problems, demonstrating solid foundational skills and strong collaborative spirit. The observer team “Singing Teacher” led by PhD student Zehan Lin, stood out with an extraordinary performance. The team solved five out of six problems—more than any other team in the contest—and emerged as the champion. Their achievement highlighted the powerful synergy between academic research and practical application, reflecting remarkable technical proficiency and innovation.

In addition, the Macau Computer Association also organized a high school team for the contest, which commendably solved two problems further showcasing the growing knowledge and potential among local youth in information technology.

As one of the most influential programming competitions for university students worldwide and renowned as the “Olympics of Computing,” the ICPC has long served as key platforms for nurturing top-tier IT talent. This latest success not only underscores the technical strength and innovative capacity of UM students but also showcase the Faculty of Science and Technology’s high quality of education and talent development. Moving forward, the Faculty remains committed to encouraging student participation in both national and international competitions—broadening horizons, cultivating creativity, and enhancing global competitiveness. UM aims to further elevate the standard of information technology education and research in Macau.

澳門大學科技學院電腦及資訊科學系兩支學生團隊分別以正式隊伍及觀察員隊伍參與2025「ACM香港編程比賽」,表現出色,備受矚目。其中,觀察員隊伍更憑藉卓越實力勇奪冠軍,正式隊伍也成功解出兩道題目,展現出紮實的基礎能力與良好的團隊協作精神。

這場比賽由ACM香港分會主辦,並於上周六(6月9日)在香港理工大學舉行。賽事沿用享有「計算機奧林匹克」美譽的國際大學生程式設計競賽(ICPC)模式,每隊由三人組成,需在四小時內解決六道極具挑戰性的算法題目。透過嚴格的時間限制與高難度算法題目,考驗參賽者的團隊合作、演算法思維及在時間壓力下解決問題的能力。是次賽事吸引來自香港及澳門多所高等院校的精英隊伍參與。

在電腦及資訊科學系吳曉偉、王也和余亮豪教授以及博士生李浩龍與林澤瀚的悉心指導下,澳大派出的兩支隊伍參賽代表澳門出戰。正式隊伍「icy_firely」的三位本科生張容嘉、高淼悅及鄭傲軒發揮穩定,成功解出兩題,展現出紮實的基礎能力與良好的團隊合作精神。觀察員隊伍「Singing Teacher」由博士生林澤瀚領隊,表現尤為亮眼。該隊伍在眾多強敵中脫穎而出,在比賽中成功解出六題中的五題,成為全場唯一完成五題的隊伍,最終勇奪冠軍。該隊表現充分展現學術與業界的優勢結合,實力非凡。此外,澳門電腦學會亦組織一支中學生隊伍參與本次比賽,並成功解出兩題,反映本地青年的資訊科技知識水平及創新能力正不斷提升。

作為全球最具影響力的大學生程式設計競賽之一同時享有「計算機奧林匹克」的盛譽,ICPC一直是培養頂尖資訊人才的重要平台。本次佳績不僅展現澳大學生在資訊科技領域的創新能力與技術實力,更進一步彰顯澳大科技學院在人才培養與教育質素上的卓越成果。未來,澳大科技學院將持續鼓勵與支持更多學生參加國內外高水平科技賽事,拓展國際視野,激發創造力與潛能,全面提升學生的競爭力與創新思維,推動澳門資訊教育與科研發展邁向更高水平。
