Computational Social Sciences Workshop: A Multifaceted Computational Framework for Evaluating the 15-Minute City Using Geospatial and Social Sensing Big Data
This research develops a sophisticated and multi-faceted computational framework designed to operationalize and quantitatively evaluate the 15-minute city paradigm, using Hong Kong as a case study of a high-density urban environment. Moving beyond conventional proximity analyses, our approach constructs a nuanced, weighted accessibility index that synthesizes a diverse array of multi-source geospatial and social sensing big data. This synthesis incorporates detailed census records, a comprehensive POI database identifying essential urban functions, and unique social media datasets. A central methodological innovation involves the application of social sensing techniques—specifically, the harnessing and analysis of over 65 million geotagged Sina Weibo check-ins—to empirically derive and assign evidence-based weights calibrating POI attractiveness across essential urban functions. By implementing and applying a modified two-step floating catchment area (2SFCA) method, our proposed model calculates fine-grained and pedestrian-based accessibility metrics. This study provides a transferable, data-driven framework for quantitatively assessing the 15-minute city development status and delivers actionable insights to guide equitable urban policy and targeted infrastructure investment.
For participants who have registered and attended the workshop, Smart Point / CS will be given as “Knowledge Integration”.
