1 September 2025 — Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College (MLC) proudly participated in the World Universities Public Speaking Invitational Championship 2025, contributing in a variety of meaningful ways.
Our students took on the distinguished role of Masters of Ceremony, confidently guiding the proceedings and ensuring the event ran smoothly. Many also served as volunteers, offering their time and effort to support the logistics and organization, while others joined as attentive spectators, showing their enthusiasm for the art of public speaking and the diverse perspectives of the international contestants. Their combined efforts highlighted MLC’s outstanding performance in cultivating leadership, service, and global engagement.
Beyond their involvement at the championship venue, Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College (MLC) further extended its hospitality by welcoming the judges of the competition, the champions and contestants to the college. They are from University of Oxford, Tsinghua University, University of British Columbia, and National University of Singapore. Led by Master YANG Liu, Venus, Gary and students greeted them warmly, prepared coffee and cookies, showcased the College’s history, facilities and cultural and art exhibition, and engaged in friendly conversations that fostered genuine intercultural exchange.
These interactions not only deepened the visitors’ appreciation of our community but also gave MLC students a unique opportunity to learn from talented speakers worldwide. The spirit of service, camaraderie, and openness made the experience both memorable and inspiring, reinforcing MLC’s mission to nurture globally competitive and responsible citizens.
Impressions:
Judge JIN Ming: I am fortunate to have set foot in the esteemed Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College, and I am struck by its exceptional beauty. The garden is elegant and serene, embodying the essence of “aesthetic beauty.” The sounds I hear reflect the thoughtful operations and profound insights of the college, where the brilliance of ideas shines through at every turn, representing “intellectual beauty.” What I feel in my heart is the meticulous care the college extends to its students, evident in the nurturing environment and heartfelt support, which exemplifies “educational beauty.” The charm of these three forms of beauty originates from the Chinese character “heart” in the college’s name—symbolizing warmth and underscoring the college’s commitment to nurturing students and creating an enriching environment with sincerity. This visit has left me deeply moved, and I hope to return to the college in the future to revisit this beauty. I also look forward to collaborating with the college to continue writing the chapter of “beauty” together.
Judge Sherrie SU: I was deeply impressed by the beautiful environment, the excellent facilities and its profound “student-centric” care. It felt like a lush green tree. The students are like diverse birds, finding in the college a place to rest, study, and engage in a wide range of activities. This tree is truly another home for them.
WANG Xinyi of Tsinghua University: I really enjoyed my visit to MLC. It was such a warm and welcoming college and everything was sweet (I mean it!!). I could feel how the teachers and students bond as a loving community and I definitely want to visit again the next time I come to Macau.
Amy KING of Oriel College, University of Oxford: I was honoured to have been given such a warm welcome around MLC. The college itself seemed like a great place to study but more than that, I was struck by the strong sense of community I felt at MLC. I hope one day to visit the college again!
Kamal Ashraf Kamil JUMAT of National University of Singapore: I was really heartened by the warm welcome we received at MLC, and I was very impressed by the good work the College has done!
Sofia LOPEZ of University of British Columbia: Visiting MLC was nothing short of a great experience. The staff and students were very attentive and the variety of amenities and activities were very impressive. I think what most stood out to me was the community this college has been able to build. It’s a college that’s accessible, open and friendly which can be hard to achieve in an academic institution.
Mars DIMITRI, Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College: I enjoyed being part of the group from MLC welcoming the students in our residential college, I think it is an important thing to do and it was very interesting to meet and discuss with the students from other universities. There is always so much to share and to learn and I would definitely participate in these activities again!
LI Xinyu of Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College: As a volunteer of the Championship, I was deeply inspired by the contestants’ passion and courage; as a Resident Assistant, I took great pride in showcasing this vibrant community to them—it was truly rewarding to see them bring the energy from the stage into our space, lighting it up with the exchange of ideas.
SUN Ximing of Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College: It was a great afternoon sharing my residential college life with guests worldwide! As student host, I talked about our cool associations and activities. Being a big fan of public speaking, I got tons of awesome tips from them!
