We are honoured to have Professor Jason Ho, Associate Professor at the School of Architecture, South China University of Technology, Adjunct Professor at the School of Architecture and Urban Design at the RMIT University in Australia, and PhD supervisor at the Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London, explore the topic of “Observation, discovery and action.” Please find the details below:

Abstract:
Over the past fifteen years, Jason Ho has traveled between different universities around the world through the teaching method of mapping workshop, leading architecture students to leave the ivory tower and go to the streets to design escape routes for vendors selling candied haws, create urban social spaces for the elders with trash cans, design city walking maps for the visually impaired, establish homeowners’ associations for three-nil buildings, work with vendors to transform their wet market into an art gallery, and build gardens of scraps with garment workers in urban villages. Through these actions, Jason hopes students will engage with the lives of ordinary people, understanding their real uses and needs for everyday space. In Jason’s view, architects must realize that what has a profound impact on people’s lives is definitely not their own beautiful dreams and visions, but how they can better understand people’s ways of living to make improvements or changes through design.
