The 6th Macau Symposium on Cognitive and Brain Sciences was successfully held at UM
第六屆澳門認知與腦科學研討會於澳大成功舉行
In a concerted effort to advance interdisciplinary collaboration and scholarly discourse, the Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences (CCBS) under the Institute of Collaborative Innovation (ICI) at the University of Macau (UM) hosted the 6th Macau Symposium on Cognitive and Brain Sciences (MSCBS 2025). The event showcased 14 presentations delivered by distinguished scholars from Stanford University, California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Peking University, Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and The University of Hong Kong etc., encompassing key areas such as addiction and decision making, language and cognition, emotion, child development and cognitive aging, visual perception, neuroimaging, and psychiatric and neurological disorders and emotional AI. The symposium attracted over 270 participants.
During the opening address, UM Vice Rector (Research), Prof. Wei GE, extended a cordial welcome to guests, faculty, students, and all participants. In the speech, he highlighted the vital role of cognitive and brain sciences in deepening insights into human behavior and promoting synergies among disciplines like psychology, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence, while also thanking speakers and participants for their invaluable contributions.
The symposium program included four keynote presentations and ten invited talks. Among the keynote speakers, Prof. Allan Reiss, Robbins Professor of Psychiatry, Radiology, and Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine, introduced intricate concepts and unresolved questions in neuropsychiatry and clinical neuroscience. Prof. Dean Mobbs, Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the California Institute of Technology, proposed a psychobiological framework to distinguish between anxiety and fear. Prof. Benjamin Becker, Full Professor at The University of Hong Kong, outlined integrated translational approaches to pinpoint the neural underpinnings of emotions through machine learning and Prof. Anqi Qiu, Director of the Mental Health Research Centre and Professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, examined fetal programming and its connections to maternal mental health, child brain maturation, and psychopathology.
The symposium incorporated poster sessions featuring 52 posters. The poster committee evaluated submissions and conferred totally 20 awards, including 10 Best Poster Awards and 10 Merit Awards.
The event was attended by Kun Wai CHEANG, Member of the Administrative Committee of the Science and Technology Development Fund, and renowned scholars from local universities; and UM members including Prof. Cheng-Zhong XU, Interim Director of Institute of Collaborative Innovation (ICI), Prof. Zhen YUAN, Associate Director of ICI, Head of Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences, and the Chair of the symposium organizing committee, and Prof. Christian MONTAG, Distinguished professor and Associate Director of ICI.
The Institute of Collaborative Innovation (ICI) is dedicated to promoting interdisciplinary research among higher education institutions in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and beyond, cultivating innovative talent, creating an environment conducive to innovative thinking, innovative capabilities, and innovative industries, and fostering industry-academia collaboration. The symposium exemplified ICI’s efforts to achieve its objectives. 為推動跨學科合作與學術討論,澳門大學協同創新研究院主辦“第六屆澳門認知與腦科學研討會(MSCBS 2025)”。此次活動匯聚來自史丹福大學、加州理工學院(Caltech)、香港大學、北京大學、中國科學院自動化研究所等知名學者的14場演講,涵蓋成癮與決策、語言與認知、情緒、兒童發展與認知老化、視覺感知、神經影像學、精神與神經疾病以及情感人工智能等關鍵領域,參加人數超過270人。
開幕致辭中,澳大副校長葛偉教授向嘉賓、教職員、學生及所有參與者致以熱烈歡迎。在演講中,他強調認知與腦科學在深化對人類行為的洞察以及促進心理學、神經科學及人工智能等學科間協同作用的關鍵作用,同時感謝講者及參與者作出的寶貴貢獻。
研討會議程包括四場主題演講及十場邀請報告。在主題講者中,史丹福大學醫學院精神病學講座教授Allan Reiss介紹了神經精神病學及臨床神經科學中的複雜概念及未解決問題。加州理工學院認知神經科學教授Dean Mobbs提出了一個區分焦慮與恐懼的心理生物框架。香港大學教授Benjamin Becker教授概述了整合轉譯方法,透過機器學習精準定位情緒的神經基礎,以及香港理工大學心理健康研究中心主任及教授邱安琪探討了胎兒程式化及其與母親心理健康、兒童腦部成熟及精神病理學的關聯。
研討會設有海報展示環節,展示了52張海報。海報委員會評估投稿並頒發總共20個獎項,包括10個最佳海報獎及10個優異獎。
活動出席嘉賓包括科學技術發展基金行政委員會委員鄭冠偉,以及本地大學知名學者;澳大協同創新研究院代院長須成忠教授、協同創新研究院副院長、認知與腦科學研究中心主任及研討會籌備委員會主席袁振教授,以及特聘教授及協同創新研究院副院長Christian Montag教授。
澳大協同創新研究院致力於促進粵港澳大灣區及以外高等教育機構間的跨學科研究,培養創新型人才,營造有利於創新思維、創新能力及創新產業的環境,並推動產學合作。是次研討會體現了協同創新研究院實現其目標的努力,匯集了來自學術界、政府及社會的專家,討論認知神經科學及腦科學的最新趨勢及挑戰,並促進學者間的討論與交流。
