To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, Stanley Ho East Asia College (SHEAC) of the University of Macau organized an educational outing for students and staff to attend the stage play “The Bloody Anchor 1945” on 1^st November 2025 at the Macau Cultural Centre. The experience enabled participants to gain a deeper understanding of the weight of history and the preciousness of peace through the medium of theatrical art.

The Bloody Anchor 1945, supported by the Macau SAR Government’s Cultural Development Fund and produced by Frost Ice Snow Creative Experimental Theatre, was set against the backdrop of wartime Macau. It portrayed the touching stories of Chinese compatriots from all parts of the country who gathered in Macau and, in the face of dire adversity, supported one another through resilience and collective courage. Through refined stagecraft and heartfelt emotion, the play vividly conveyed the enduring significance and contemporary relevance of the wartime spirit, leaving audiences deeply moved and inspired.

SHEAC has long emphasized the cultivation of students’ humanistic qualities and patriotic education. By promoting diverse cultural learning experiences, the college encourages students to reflect on history, derive inspiration from hardship, and strengthen their awareness of national identity and responsibility. The viewing of this stage play served as a meaningful practice in patriotic education, allowing students to experience the unity and determination of the Chinese people and comprehend the importance of perseverance in times of national crisis.

After the performance, many students expressed profound emotions. A student shared that the bravery and selflessness of the characters reminded her of the value of peace and motivated her to persevere in their own studies and life goals. Another student said that the story provided him new insights into Macau’s historical role during the war, sparking greater interest in modern Chinese history and local culture.

Looking ahead, Stanley Ho East Asia College will continue to advance its holistic education mission grounded in the ideals of “Loving the Country, Loving Macau” and national education. Through a variety of academic, cultural and social engagement initiatives, the college aims to foster in students a strong sense of patriotism, civic responsibility, and cultural understanding — nurturing future generations of globally minded young leaders with a deep love for their nation.
