The South China Quarterly: Journal of University of Macau (SCQJUM), an academic journal edited and published by the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Macau (UMIAS), has been officially added to the prestigious Cambridge University Library collection. This inclusion marks significant international recognition of the journal’s academic quality and its mission to “bring Chinese-language journals to the world.” It also signifies the strengthening of collaborative ties between the two universities.
Dr. Yan He, Head of the Chinese Section at the Cambridge University Library, noted that a key criterion for inclusion is a publication’s high academic value and anticipated usage. She stated that the library’s decision to collect SCQJUM is a testament not only to the journal’s rigorous review process and openness but also to the value of the “Chinese scholarship” that it represents.
The journal’s successful inclusion builds upon the close and broad academic cooperation between the two institutions. Earlier this year, UMIAS engaged in academic dialogues with scholars from Clare Hall and Lucy Cavendish College at the University of Cambridge through events such as ‘The First Clare Hall, University of Cambridge – University of Macau Forum’ and a guest discussion series. Furthermore, on April 14, 2024, Dr. Yan He visited the UMIAS editorial office to conduct an on-site review and hold in-depth discussions with the institute’s scholars about potential collaborations.
As a university journal, SCQJUM actively responds to the University’s internationalization strategy, upholding the vision of “Making Chinese scholarship global. An international journal for the Chinese academic community.” The journal welcomes contributions from scholars worldwide who use Chinese as their academic language, including original works from authors, anonymous reviewers, and readers from all fields. SCQJUM is dedicated to expanding its international influence, prioritizing submissions with a global perspective, strong problem awareness, and an interdisciplinary approach. It maintains a rigorous anonymous peer review process and operates through collective editorial management, striving to contribute to the internationalization of Chinese scholarship.
UMIAS and SCQJUM will further strengthen their ties and cooperation with the University of Cambridge, promote more diverse academic exchanges and research collaborations, and make positive contributions to mutual learning and progress within the global academic community.
