Biography

Prof. Jacob Soll is University Professor at the University of Southern California, specializing in philosophy, history and accounting. His research explores the mechanics of politics, statecraft, and economics, focusing on how modern states succeed or fail and the evolving relationship between individuals and the state. Soll is the author of several award-winning books, including Publishing The Prince: Reading, History, and the Birth of Political Criticism (2005), and The Information Master: Jean Baptiste Colbert’s State Information System (2009). In 2011, he received the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship for his work on the history of the state.
