We are pleased to invite you to a FST MO-HQ Distinguished Seminar organized by the Faculty of Science and Technology on 8 January. This special talk will feature Prof. Lorenz T. BIEGLER, Covestro University Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, who will share his groundbreaking work on dynamic real-time optimization and nonlinear model predictive control.

- Speaker’s Introduction:
Prof. Lorenz T. Biegler (Larry) is a world-renowned expert in computer-aided process engineering, process optimization, and nonlinear control. With over 600 publications and two textbooks to his name, his research spans flowsheet optimization, reactor network synthesis, real-time optimization, and nonlinear programming algorithms. A Fellow of AIChE, IFAC, and SIAM, he was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering in recognition of his transformative contributions to chemical engineering and optimization sciences.
This seminar will be especially valuable for students interested in chemical engineering, process optimization, control systems, nonlinear programming, real-time optimization, energy systems, and applied mathematics. No registration is required.

Prof. Lorenz T. Biegler (Larry) 為電腦輔助製程工程、製程優化及非線性控制領域的國際知名專家。他已發表逾 600 篇學術論文，並撰寫兩本專著，研究範疇涵蓋流程圖優化、反應器網絡綜合、實時優化以及非線性規劃演算法。他是美國化學工程學會（AIChE）、國際自動控制聯合會（IFAC）及工業與應用數學學會（SIAM）會士，並因其在化學工程與優化科學領域的突破性貢獻而當選為美國國家工程院院士。
