The e-book, Regarding Books, a collaboration between the University of Macau Library and the Department of Arts and Design of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, is now accessible online!

Regarding Books features sixty-seven items from the special exhibition of the same name held at the University of Macau Museum  of Art from May to September 2025. All of the exhibits are drawn from the University of Macau Library’s collection, encompassing various formats such as manuscripts, block-printed editions, lithographic prints, modern printed books, and maps. The materials span multiple languages, including Chinese, English, Portuguese, and French, and cover a time period from 1491 to the end of the 20th century.

The content explores the themes of truth, goodness, and beauty behind the dissemination of knowledge through the unique perspectives of “appreciating books”. It interweaves stories of Macau connected to the collection and, through detailed lenses such as image, text, technology, and art, delicately reveals the human warmth within the flow of knowledge across its six chapters:

  • The intersection of East and West
  • The spread of Western learning to the East
  • The exchange of languages
  • The transmission of cultural heritage
  • The dissemination of customs and traditions
  • The heartwarming condensed essence of East and West

The entries are richly illustrated, and the volume includes eight related videos that can be played directly, complemented by the exhibition’s promotional materials and on-site displays—together offering a diverse and engaging visual experience.
