MCM College: “Stepping into a Changing Antarctica” Sharing Session
滿珍紀念書院:「走進變遷中的南極」分享會

On 30th March 2026, Moon Chun Memorial College, University of Macau organized a sharing session titled “Stepping into a Changing Antarctica”, drawing keen participation from students. The event offered an engaging and reflective exploration of Antarctica’s rapidly changing environment and its global implications, aiming to promote environmental awareness and dialogue on global environmental challenges.
The session was delivered by Mr. Steven U, a film director, who shared first-hand insights from his expedition in Antarctica last year. Through vivid photographs, videos, and personal narratives, participants were guided through the continent’s fragile ecosystems and the visible impacts of climate change. Following this, Dr. Joe Chan, a Macao local environmentalist, delivered a brief talk highlighting the key environmental changes in Antarctica, their consequences for global sea levels, and the critical role Antarctica plays in regulating the Earth’s climate system. He emphasized the interconnectedness between polar environmental changes and daily life, encouraging participants to reflect on personal and collective responsibilities in addressing climate change. “Antarctica may feel distant, but what happens there affects all of us,” said Chan. “By understanding these changes, we are better equipped to act more sustainably and responsibly in our own communities.”
The interactive sharing session sparked thoughtful discussions among participants. Many attendees shared that the session helped transform abstract climate concepts into tangible and emotionally resonant experiences, deepening their understanding and concern for environmental issues. At the conclusion of the event, College Master, Prof. Kwok-cheung Cheung expressed his gratitude to Director U and Dr. Chan, thanking them for providing students with a meaningful and impactful learning experience.
