MCM College: “Understanding Neuroimaging” Talk and MRI Guided Tour

Moon Chun Memorial College, University of Macau organized the “Introduction to Neuroimaging” Talk and MRI Guided Tour on 1st April, 2026. The activity aimed to promote knowledge of neuroimaging and to foster students’ awareness of and interest in brain science research. By integrating theoretical instruction with on-site visits, the event provided participants with a comprehensive overview of the frontiers of contemporary neuroscience research.
College Fellow, Pro. Lulu Liu, (FSS–Department of Psychology), was invited as the keynote speaker. During the lecture, Prof. Liu systematically introduced the fundamental theories and core research methods of neuroimaging. The content covered the basic principles of brain structural and functional imaging, with in-depth explanations of major techniques such as structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), electroencephalography (EEG), and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), including their operating mechanisms, application scenarios, and scientific value. Through representative studies in cognitive and affective neuroscience, Prof. Liu vividly demonstrated how neuroimaging technologies uncover the neural mechanisms underlying human thought and emotion, making abstract and complex scientific concepts accessible and engaging for the audience.
Following the talk, participants visited the Institute of Collaborative Innovation at the University of Macau for a guided tour. Under the guidance of professional technical staff, they observed the core components of an MRI scanner at close range and learned about imaging procedures, data acquisition standards, and strict safety protocols. Participants also visited neuroimaging facilities for EEG and fNIRS, gaining a deeper understanding of the distinctive features and complementary strengths of different techniques in the study of brain function.
