UM Dragon Boat Team participated in the “2026 Macau University Dragon Boat Blessing Ceremony”
 

To promote traditional culture and foster exchange and cooperation among higher education institutions, the Macau Student Affairs Association 澳門學生事務協會 (MSAA) organized the “2026 Macau University Dragon Boat Blessing Ceremony” at the Nam Van Lake Water Sports Centre on 26 April 2026. 

5 higher education institutes, with more than 160 guests, coaches, athletes and working personnel, had participated in the “Dragon Boat Blessing Ceremony 澳門高校龍舟下水禮祈福儀式” last Sunday, including

  • University of Macau 澳門大學
  • Macao Polytechnic University 澳門理工大學
  • Macau University of Science and Technology 澳門科技大學
  • City University of Macau 澳門城市大學
  • Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau 澳門鏡湖護理學院

Attended guests included:

  1. Mr. Li Yong Le, Consultant (Level III) of the Department of Education and Youth Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao SAR (中央政府駐澳門特別行政區聯絡辦公室教育與青年部代表 李咏樂先生)
  2. Mr. Chan Iok Wai, Director of the Department of Students of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region Education and Youth Development Bureau (澳門特別行政區政府教育及青年發展局學生廳 陳旭偉廳長)
  3. Mr. Chang Chin Nam, Vice President of the China-Macau Dragon Boat Association (中國澳門龍舟總會 曾展南副會長)

Representatives from MSAA and participating institutions included:

  1. Prof. Mok Kai Meng, Vice Rector for Student Affairs of the University of Macau (澳門大學 莫啓明學生事務副校長)
  2. Prof. Leong Man Wai, Assistant Vice-President of Macau University of Science and Technology (澳門科技大學 梁文慧協理副校長)
  3. Prof. Leong Sok Man, Vice-President of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (澳門鏡湖護理學院 梁淑敏副院長)
  4. Prof. Ng San Fan, Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences and Sports of Macao Polytechnic University (澳門理工大學健康科學及體育學院 吳新凡院長)
  5. Mr. Chang Ka Hei from the Head of the Sports Affairs Section of City University of Macau (澳門城市大體育事務範疇 張嘉熙主任)
  6. Ms. Wong Ka Weng, President of the Macau Student Affairs Association (澳門學生事務協會 黃嘉穎會長)
  7. Ms. Grace Chau, , Vice-President of the Macau Student Affairs Association and Member of the Activity Organizing Committee (活動籌委及澳門學生事務協會 周桂慈副會長)

The event featured traditional rituals such as incense offering, eye-dotting, and sprinkling of “dragon head grass,” symbolizing blessings and high hopes from all sectors of society for the dragon boat sport. Subsequently, the participating athletes launched the dragon boats into the water amid an enthusiastic atmosphere, showcasing the youthful energy and team spirit of Macau’s higher education athletes.

The successful hosting of this Dragon Boat Launching Ceremony marks the active exploration and breakthroughs of Macau’s higher education institutions in sports activities, boosting morale for the upcoming Macau International Dragon Boat Races. It is hoped that in the coming season, UM Dragon Boat will perform exceptionally well in the competition and strive for outstanding achievements.
