Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College Organized Charity Bazaar, Raising Donations to Support Education Development in Xiushui, Jiangxi

During the 2025/2026 academic year, the Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College (HFPJC) of University of Macao (UM) organized a series of charity sales, which concluded successfully in late April 2026. The events raised a total of MOP 5,460 and RMB 3,085.43. After deducting necessary expenses, all proceeds will be used to purchase teaching materials for the College’s Service-Learning Team, which will visit Bailin Town Primary School in Xiushui County, Jiangxi Province, at the end of May 2026.

The charity sale was carried out in phases and received an enthusiastic response from students, staff, and visitors. During the preparation stage, Prof. Ho Ying, a College Affiliate, guided the College’s knitting interest club, teaching basic stitches and creating small accessories for sale. The organizing committee also held handicraft workshops that encouraged students and faculty to handmake items through interactive instruction—conveying the warmth of craftsmanship while bringing people together for a good cause. The first sales booth debuted during the UM Open Day in January 2026 and was warmly supported by visitors and the UM community. A second round of booths ran from 20 to 23 April, featuring handmade crafts created or donated by students and staff. The atmosphere was lively, and many supporters donated amounts above list prices.

The smooth execution of the events was made possible by the selfless efforts of the organizing committee. Committee member Li Dongni participated in the College’s Service-Learning Program in May 2024 and has remained actively involved in preparing the charity sale. She remarked, “From the early planning to each sales event, everyone devoted tremendous effort. The children’s eagerness to learn during our past teaching visits has stayed with me. Although I cannot accompany them in person this year, contributing through the charity sale is deeply meaningful. Along the way we also met many caring teachers and classmates—together, we pooled small acts of kindness to lift up the children’s hopes.”

Since 2014, HFPJC has carried out annual service-learning trips to remote regions of Mainland China, providing volunteer teaching for local children. In 2024, the team visited Bailin Town No. 2 Primary School in Xiushui, building strong bonds with the students there. To sustain this care, College members initiated the present charity sale to turn compassion into concrete action. The Service-Learning Team will return to the area this May to continue volunteer teaching and will closely track the use of funds to ensure that resources are put to work where they benefit the children most.
