Students of Lui Che Woo College (LCWC), led by College Associate Master, Prof. Chao Kuok Fai and Resident Fellow, Mr. Lei Weng Hong, visited Lanzhou during 22 May to 30 May 2023 to participate in “Chinese Excellent Traditional Cultural Psychology Research Camp”, which was organized by the School of Basic Medicine of Lanzhou University. This research camp provided a great platform to the academic staff and students from both universities where they can interact closely with each other. Most importantly, the visit enabled LCWC students and staff to gain a deeper understanding of the traditional Chinese culture through the learning of expressive artistic techniques of applied psychology such as Baduanjin, mural psychotherapy and aromatherapy. Such profound experiences of Chinese heritage inspired LCWC students’ imagination and strengthened their social responsibility. Students also made use of this opportunity to learn more about how to prepare activities relating to mental health and social services.

The research camp lasted for nine days. During this period, students and staff of LCWC visited Dunhuang Grottoes, Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Lake, Jiayuguan, Danxia landform and Ganga Secret Realm, and also studied as well as carried out the desertification control project for Mingsha Mountain. Through these activities, LCWC students could more intuitively understand the long history of the western part of the motherland, the rich reserves of the Silk Road and the great wonders of traditional Chinese culture. Overall, this research camp was an excellent occasion to enhance students’ competencies and deepen scientific research collaboration between the University of Macau and Lanzhou University.
