【External Activities】Summer Exchange Opportunities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Dear students,

Shanghai Jiao Tong University offers summer exchange opportunities for UM students. This course is hosted by the USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry (ICCI), jointly established by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and the University of Southern California (USC). It is an interdisciplinary course focusing on the multimodel applications of generative artificial intelligence (AIGC) technologies in the cultural and creative industry. The course covers comprehensive modules on text generation, image and video production, sound creation, and commercialization pathways. Through theoretical learning, hands-on experiences, and visits to cultural and creative enterprises, students will enhance their interdisciplinary practical skills and creative literacy. Dear students,

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Jinan University, and ISCTE Business School offer summer exchange opportunities for UM students. Please refer to the following programme information and application methods if you are interested. 

The CEO Summer School provides 25 courses, covering professional and general education fields. Students can choose to take a 2-credit or 3-credit course. Students will have the opportunity to have in-depth exchanges with students from CUHK and other institutions and experience Hong Kong culture.

  • Once you have decided which programme to join, you may submit the UM Internal Application through the application link on our homepage. The link will be available on our website on January 20 ,2025. Select your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice (you will not be allowed to switch to your 2nd or 3rd choice unless your 1st choice was cancelled by the host University).
  • Provide your number of SP (Smart Point) during the application. This will determine whether you will receive any Smart Point Sponsorship or Programme Quota (some programmes have limited seats, students with more points will have a higher chance of getting into the programme).
  • Application period: January 20 to February 20, 2025
  • Contact your Faculty directly if you would like to earn transfer credits from the host university. Complete the learning agreement before departure.

    Internal Application Result Announcement: February 27, 2025

    All applicants will receive a result announcement email on February 27. The email will include the following information:
    – whether you receive any Smart Point/RC Sponsorship
    – the programme you are allocated to (This does not mean that you’ve been admitted; you still need to handle the official application!)
    – how to confirm your application (fill in the confirmation link provided in the email and submit the Student and Parents/Legal Guardian Consent Form)

After UM Internal Application

  • Confirmation Period: February 27 to March 6, 2025 (late confirmation will not be considered)
  • Confirm with SAO that you will join the programme. Submit the required documents through the confirmation link sent by SAO.
  • After you submit the confirmation, SAO coordinators will advise you regarding the Official Application with the Host University. You will have to submit the Official Application directly to the Host University OR to the Student Affairs Office (depending on the programme you applied to) and pay the tuition fees before the deadline.

After you receive the acceptance letter

  • Once you receive the offer from the host University, please apply for your travel/student visa (if needed), reserve accommodation, plan your trip and purchase travel insurance.
  • All participants must purchase travel insurance and submit relevant documents to SAO before departure.
  • All participants are required to join the pre-departure briefing organized by SAO.

After You Complete The Programme

  • Students have to complete the online survey provided by SAO.
  • For students who receive Smart Point, RC or University Team sponsorship, a trip report and relevant documents are required to claim the sponsorship.

During UM Internal Application

  • Once you have decided which programme to join, you may submit the UM Internal Application through the application link on our homepage. The link will be available on our website on January 20 ,2025. Select your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice (you will not be allowed to switch to your 2nd or 3rd choice unless your 1st choice was cancelled by the host University).
  • Provide your number of SP (Smart Point) during the application. This will determine whether you will receive any Smart Point Sponsorship or Programme Quota (some programmes have limited seats, students with more points will have a higher chance of getting into the programme).
  • Application period: January 20 to February 20, 2025
  • Contact your Faculty directly if you would like to earn transfer credits from the host university. Complete the learning agreement before departure.

    Internal Application Result Announcement: February 27, 2025

    All applicants will receive a result announcement email on February 27. The email will include the following information:
    – whether you receive any Smart Point/RC Sponsorship
    – the programme you are allocated to (This does not mean that you’ve been admitted; you still need to handle the official application!)
    – how to confirm your application (fill in the confirmation link provided in the email and submit the Student and Parents/Legal Guardian Consent Form)

After UM Internal Application

  • Confirmation Period: February 27 to March 6, 2025 (late confirmation will not be considered)
  • Confirm with SAO that you will join the programme. Submit the required documents through the confirmation link sent by SAO.
  • After you submit the confirmation, SAO coordinators will advise you regarding the Official Application with the Host University. You will have to submit the Official Application directly to the Host University OR to the Student Affairs Office (depending on the programme you applied to) and pay the tuition fees before the deadline.

After you receive the acceptance letter

  • Once you receive the offer from the host University, please apply for your travel/student visa (if needed), reserve accommodation, plan your trip and purchase travel insurance.
  • All participants must purchase travel insurance and submit relevant documents to SAO before departure.
  • All participants are required to join the pre-departure briefing organized by SAO.

After You Complete The Programme

  • Students have to complete the online survey provided by SAO.
  • For students who receive Smart Point, RC or University Team sponsorship, a trip report and relevant documents are required to claim the sponsorship.

  • Student Affairs Office will only nominate students to ONE programme. Students who are nominated to their first choice will not be allowed to change to their second or third choice
  • After you submit the confirmation of participation (after March 6) to the Student Affairs Office, if you:
    – do not complete the official application with the host University;
    – withdraw from the programme;
    – do not inform the Student Affairs Office about your withdrawal.
    You will be subjected to an administrative fee of MOP1,000 or disciplinary actions and will not be nominated to join the 2026 Summer Programme. The fee will not be waived unless valid justifications (along with supporting documents) are provided and approved by the Student Affairs Office.
  • Submit all the required documents and reports to the Student Affairs Office:
    (Pre-departure)
    – Information about tuition fee payment, accommodation, flight/train/bus, insurance, etc
    (After you return)
    – Student without sponsorship: certificate and complete an online survey
    – Student with sponsorship: transcript, programme report, relevant receipts, and complete an online survey

Summer programme is a fantastic opportunity to travel and experience another culture. International education and experience are crucial in broadening your perspectives and enhancing your academic profile. Whether you are looking for an intensive language course, a programme related to your major, a unique interdisciplinary cultural program or want to explore your interests during your summer break, your summer short-term experience will have a lifelong impact.

Submit your application before February 20, 2025
The application link is available on the Summer Programme Website. Please review the application details below before submitting your application. If this is your first time joining the Summer Exchange Programme, please read the general briefing information HERE.
*Late applications will not be accepted

  • Cumulated GPA >= 2.0 or equivalent
  • UM current students (both undergraduate and postgraduate students)
  • Consent from parents or legal guardians
  • Not available to exchange students 

Programme information will be updated from time to time. More programmes will be available after Chinese New Year. Please click on the official website of the host university to receive more information about programme arrangements such as courses, fees, accommodation and refund policy, etc. 

Before Application

  • Visit the Summer Programme website and find out which programme you are interested in.
  • Attend the General Briefing to receive more information about applications and sponsorships. If you’ve missed the General Briefing, please download the Powerpoint from the summer programme website.

Student Affairs Office organized the 5th Summer Programme Fair

The Student Affairs Office held the fifth Summer Programme Fair on January 15, 2025. 19 universities worldwide provided the latest information about their exchange opportunities for UM students. Prof. Rui Martins, Vice Rector (Global Affairs), welcomed the representatives at the opening ceremony. UM has established summer exchange partnerships with institutions from more than 20 countries and regions, with more than 80 exchange programmes. He encouraged students to actively seek information, ask questions, and explore the possibilities ahead. 

Universities exhibiting at the fair include the University of British Columbia from Canada; Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the University of International Business and Economics and Zhejiang University from China; the University of Hong Kong from Hong Kong, China; IÉSEG School of Management from France; J.F. Oberlin University from Japan; Hanyang University and Korea University from Korea; Universidad Autónoma de Madrid from Spain; King’s College London, University College London, University of Leeds, Oriel College of the University of Oxford, Worcester College of the University of Oxford and University of Warwick from the United Kingdom; Boston University, Cornell University and Temple University from the United States.
