Institute of Collaborative Innovation (ICI) is organizing “The 2nd International Symposium on Interdisciplinary and Collaborative Innovation Research” at UM on 6 & 7 September 2024. This event aims to gather experts from academia, government, and society to discuss the latest trends and challenges in data science, cognitive sciences, and brain sciences. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative solutions can emerge for complex problems. More significantly, the symposium’s objective is to facilitate dynamic discussions and exchanges among scholars and to share recent findings in cognitive neuroscience and data science through 2 sub-sessions led by Head of Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences (CCBS) and Head of Centre for Data Science (CDS) respectively. More than 26 speakers from various backgrounds will share experiences and insights, featuring keynote talks, invited talks and poster presentations, driving forward the frontiers of data science and cognitive and brain sciences.

Macau Symposium on National fNIRS Neuroimaging 2023 was successfully held at UM

The Macau Symposium on National fNIRS Neuroimaging 2023 was successfully held at the University of Macau (UM) on the 17th December 2023 (Sunday). This symposium brought together experts and scholars from the fields of cognitive neuroscience, psychology, education, medicine and kinesiology to discuss the latest scientific research, cutting-edge technologies and challenges related to functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) brain imaging in these respective fields. With the purpose of promoting academic exchange among scholars, a total of 12 talks were hosted. This symposium further strengthened communication and collaboration between Macau and mainland China. During the interactive sessions and Q&A discussions, scholars actively engaged in fruitful exchanges and discussions, reflecting enthusiasm and interest in the topic.

The first opening talk was given by Prof. Hui LI, Professor and Chief Physician of the First Affiliate Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, on the topic “Maternal-infant bonding and brain functional network connectivity in 0-2 months infants: An fNIRS study”. Other speakers include Prof. Weiming LIU of The First Affiliate Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, Prof. Haijing NIU of Beijing Normal University, Prof. Fan WANG of the Institute of Biophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Dongyuan LIU of Tianjin University, Prof. Qinmei XU and Dr. Chenyu YAN of Zhejiang University, Prof. Xin ZHANG of the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Zhongliang ZHU of Northwest University, and Prof. Zhen YUAN, Prof. Juan ZHANG and Prof. Rihui LI of the University of Macau.

The Macau Symposium on National fNIRS Neuroimaging 2023 was organized by the Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences of the Institute of Collaborative Innovation (ICI-CCBS) and is sponsored by Beijing Fistar Technology, Light Edge Tech, Bio-ling, Psyche-ark and Hongke Co., Ltd.

於2023年12月17日(星期日),澳門大學成功舉辦了全國近紅外腦功能成像(fNIRS)澳門論壇。本次論壇聚集了認知神經科學、心理學、教育學、醫學和運動學等領域的專家學者,就近紅外腦功能成像領域的最新科學研究、尖端技術和挑戰進行了討論。本次論壇共舉辦了12場演講旨在促進學者之間的學術交流,加强了澳門與内地之間的溝通以及合作。在交流以及問答環節,各位學者交流互動,反應熱烈。

首場開幕演講由西安交通大學第一附屬醫院兒科及新生兒科李暉教授兼主任醫師主講,演講主題為「0-2個月嬰兒母嬰情感聯結與腦功能網路連接:一項fNIRS研究」。其他演講者包括西安交通大學附屬第一醫院的劉維民教授、北京師範大學的牛海晶教授、中國科學院生物物理研究所的王帆教授、天津大學的劉東遠教授、浙江大學的徐琴美教授和嚴晨毓博士、中國科學院自動化研究所的張鑫教授、西北大學的朱忠良教授,以及澳門大學的袁振教授、張娟教授和李日輝教授。

2023年全國近紅外腦功能成像(fNIRS)澳門論壇由澳門大學協同創新研究院認知與腦科學研究中心(ICI-CCBS)主辦,由北京飛宇星、中科奧輝、百靈生物、心靈方舟和泓科有限公司贊助。

The Macau Symposium on National fNIRS Neuroimaging 2023, organized by the Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences, will be held in UM on 17th December 2023. This symposium invites renowned scholars in the field to present the latest research findings and engage in interdisciplinary academic exchanges and technical discussions among the field of neuroimaging.

With the theme of Near-Infrared Brain Imaging (fNIRS) Methods and Applications, we aim to gather experts and scholars from various fields, including cognitive neuroscience, psychology, education, medicine, sports science, and neuro-management, to explore the latest scientific research findings and cutting-edge technologies of fNIRS in related fields. Through this symposium, we look forward to constructive academic exchanges in different disciplinary areas, in order to further refine the leading scientific questions faced by relevant fields, enhance the forward-looking and innovative nature of scientific research, stimulate technical, methodological, and applied innovations in NIRS research in different fields, and promote the transformation of NIRS technology in brain science and technological applications.

The 1st International Symposium on Interdisciplinary and Collaborative Innovation Research was successfully held at the University of Macau (UM). Consisting of two sub sessions: The 1st Macau Symposium on Data Science on 4th September, and The 4th Macau Symposium on Cognitive and Brain Sciences on 8th and 9th September, the symposium offers keynote presentations, invited guest talks and young researcher session, aiming to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and  facilitate academic exchange. A total of 37 presentations were delivered by renowned experts and scholars from diverse backgrounds sharing their latest research findings in data science and neuroscience, including 8 keynote presentations and 29 guest talks. The three-day symposium has more than 300 people participated.

This symposium was sponsored by the University of Macau Development Foundation and co-organized by the Institute of Collaborative Innovation (ICI) and its sub-centres, Centre for Data Science and Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences. During the opening ceremony, Prof. Wei GE, Vice Rector (Research) of UM, delivered a speech introducing the mission and key role of the Institute of Collaborative Innovation, and expressed expectations for the success of this symposium.

A list of honorable guests attended the opening ceremony, including Mr. Simon CHE Wai Meng, Chief of the Project Transformation and Support Department of The Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT), Mr. CHAN Chou Weng, Acting Head of Technology Department of The Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT), Prof. Florence VAN Iat Kio, President of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau, Prof. Jason CHUANG Yao Chen, Associate Professor of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau, Mr. Jack YIM, Huawei Cloud Solutions, Prof. Chengzhong XU, Interim Director of Institute of Collaborative Innovation, Prof. Zhen Yuan, Associate Director of Institute of Collaborative Innovation and Head of Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences and Prof. Ryan U, Head of Centre for Data Science.

The 1st Macau Symposium on Data Science (sub session 1) hosted 2 keynote speeches. Prof. Reynold CHENG from the University of Hong Kong introduced how to use data science technology to help the elderly and home care services by the Social Technology and Research Laboratory of HKU (STAR LAB). Prof. Jianliang XU of Hong Kong Baptist University discussed the challenges and difficulties encountered in large-scale geospatial analysis technology and shared the latest research results.

The 4th Macau Symposium on Cognitive and Brain Sciences (sub session 2) hosted 6 keynote speeches and 20 invited guest talks sharing on topics such as cognitive neuroscience, brain diseases, neuroimaging, and brain intervention techniques. Keynote speaker Prof. Luonan CHEN of the Chinese Academy of Sciences presented a new concept “dynamics-based data science” in AI applications of biology and medicine for studying dynamical processes and disease progressions; Prof. Qiyong GONG, Professor of West China Hospital of Sichuan University shared recent findings on psychoradiology in conjunction with the recent technical development, and their implications for clinical care of the psychiatric patients; Prof. Gene BREWER of the Arizona State University gave a talked titled “Novel Methods for Detecting Neurotransmitter Concentrations with Sub-Second Temporal Resolution in Humans”; Prof. Tatia LEE, Chair Professor of the University of Hong Kong shared her findings on the topic “Is the pons a significant neural correlate of the human affective processing system?”; Prof. Miguel CASTELO-BRANCO discussed on the mechanisms of disease and of therapeutic interventions in clinical neuroscience; and Prof. Lingjie Kong from Tsinghua University introduced his research on all-optical physiology for interrogation of neural circuits in vivo.

The symposium also included a young researcher session to showcase their research outputs, a total of 10 oral presentations were given delivered and 30 posters were displayed. As a recognition to the outstanding young scholars, the committee selected three awardees each for the Best Oral Presentation Award, Best Poster Award and Travel Award.

The Institute of Collaborative Innovation is dedicated to promote interdisciplinary research among the higher education institutions in the Greater Bay Area and internationally, cultivating innovative talents, fostering an environment that is conducive to innovative thinking, innovative capabilities and innovative industries, and promoting cooperation among industry, academic and research. This symposium attempted to discuss the latest trends and challenges in data science, cognitive neuroscience and brain science, with the purpose of promoting academic exchange among scholars.

第一屆跨學科協同創新研究國際研討會在本月於澳大成功舉行。三天的會議包含兩個分會場,分別是於9月4日舉行的第一屆澳門數據科學研討會,及於9月8日及9日舉行的第四屆澳門認知與腦科學研討會。研討會内容充實,包括主題演講、嘉賓報告及青年學者的成果展示,旨在促進跨學科合作,為數據科學、認知神經科學和腦科學領域的複雜問題展開學術討論,三天會議共錄得越三百人次參與。是此活動中共37位來自不同背景的專家學者分享其在數據科學和認知與腦科學等領域的最新研究成果,一共完成8場主題演講和29場嘉賓演講。

 

是此活動由澳門大學發展基金會贊助,澳大協同創新研究院及其下單位數據科學研究中心及認知與腦科學研究中心聯合主辦。三日的活動包括八場主題演講和二十九場嘉賓演講。在開幕式上,澳門大學副校長(研究)葛偉教授致辭時介紹了協同創新研究院的創立目的與關鍵作用,並表達了對研討會圓滿舉辦的期許。出席開幕式的嘉賓有澳門科學技術發展基金項目成果轉化及輔助部高級經理謝偉明、經濟及科技發展局科技廳代廳長陳祖榮、澳門鏡湖護理學院院長尹一橋及副教授莊曜禎、華為雲端解決方案架構師嚴國垣、澳大協同創新研究院代院長須成忠、協同創新研究院副院長及認知與腦科學研究中心主任袁振,及數據科學研究中心主任余亮豪。

第一屆澳門數據科學研討會 (分會場一)共有兩場特邀嘉賓的主題演講,分別為:香港大學計算機科學系鄭振剛教授通過實踐案例的分享,介紹香港大學社會科技與研究實驗室(STAR LAB)如何運用數據科學技術為老人和家庭護理服務提供幫助;香港浸會大學理學院計算機科學系系主任徐建良教授探討大規模地理空間分析技術遇到的挑戰與困難,並分享了最新的研究成果。

 

第四屆澳門認知與腦科學研討會(分會場二)的六場特邀嘉賓主題演講分別是:中國科學院系统生物學重點實驗室陳洛南教授探討用於研究動態處理和疾病進展的新概念;四川大學華西醫院放射科磁共振研究中心龔啟勇教授總結精神影像學的最新發現、技術發展以及其對精神病人臨床護理啟示;美國亞利桑那州立大學Gene BREWER教授介紹如何通過一種全新的技術檢測多巴胺對於工作記憶的作用;香港大學李湄珍教授探討關於橋腦和皮質邊緣紋狀體系統對於個人情感狀態和反應力塑造的協同作用;葡萄牙哥英布拉大學Miguel CASTELO-BRANCO教授介紹了臨床神經科學中的疾病機制和治療干預;清華大學孔令傑教授介紹其在全光學式生理學領域的研究成果。此外,二十名嘉賓講者在兩天的會議,就腦認知、腦疾病、神經影像學與大腦干預技術等進行報告與分享。研討會設年輕研究員的成果展示及分享環節,包括十場口頭報告及三十張海報展示。為鼓勵青年學者的参與,評委選出最佳口頭報告、最佳海報及差旅獎各三名,以示獎勵。

 

協同創新研究院致力於促進澳門、大灣區及海內外高校的跨學科研究,培養創新型人才,大力營造有利於“創新思維,創新能力、創新產業”的環境,推動產學研合作。是此活動正是協同創新研究院為實現其宗旨所做出的努力之一,也實現了匯集來自學術界、政府和社會的專家,討論數據科學、認知神經科學和腦科學領域的最新趨勢和挑戰,促進學者之間的動態討論和交流的目的。

UM-GDIIST Joint Workshop on Brain Sciences was Held Successfully

On 25th March, the UM-GDIIST Joint Workshop on Brain Sciences was successfully organized by the Guangdong Institute of Intelligence Science (hereinafter referred as “GDIIST”) and co-organized by the Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences of the University of Macau (hereinafter referred as “CCBS”) in Hengqin Island of Zhuhai. Around a hundred participants attended the workshop, including principal investigators of GDIIST, young researchers, and professors and students from UM. Twelve presentations by the Principal Investigators of both institutes, and two poster sessions featuring students and young researchers were included in the agenda.

In the opening speech made by Academician Xu ZHANG, President of GDIIST and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, he expressed the intention that this Joint Workshop would provide academic exchange opportunities for our researchers, and promote the development of brain research in the Greater Bay Area and even further.

In the closing remarks, Prof. Yuan ZHEN, Head of CCBS expressed his sincere thanks to GDIIST for organising this joint workshop, and looked forward to continuing in-depth academic exchanges and research project collaboration with GDIIST.

Principal Investigators took turns to share their research findings through the presentations, which included the following topics: 痛覺神經網絡 (Xu ZHANG, Academician), 使用中藥干預腦創傷 (Zhen YUAN, Professor), 谷氨酸受體突變致認知障礙和精神病中的機制研究 (Yun SHI, Principal Investigator), Somatosensory neuron types and functions (Changlin LI, Principal Investigator), 細胞外囊泡維持缺血性腦卒中血腦屏障完整性的研究 (Yonghua ZHAO, Assistant Professor), Ultrasound neuromodulation (Zhihai QIU, Principal Investigator), 腦機接口技術的探索與實踐 (Feng WAN, Associate Professor), m6A-modification of long noncoding RNAs in regulating neuronal development (Bin WANG, Principal Investigator), 神經科學數據計算 (Yimin WANG, Principal Investigator), PBN-PVT projection modulates negative affective states in mice (Di MU, Principal Investigator), Multilingual language diversity modulates the effect of control demand on language production (Haoyun ZHANG, Assistant Professor), 人腦中間神經元多樣性形成的轉錄調控機制 (Yingchao SHI, Principal Investigator).

In 2022, the University of Macau signed a collaborative framework agreement with GDIIST aiming to deepen cooperation and exchanges with education and research institutions, and to promote the academic development of relevant frontier scientific fields in the Greater Bay Area.

由廣東省智能科學與技術研究院(下簡稱“智能院”)主辦,澳門大學認知與腦科學研究中心協辦的澳門大學廣東省智能院腦科學專題研討會於3月25日珠海橫琴島順利舉行。參會人數約百人,包括智能院腦認知課題組各研究組組長、青年研究員及澳門大學師生。議程包括十二個專題報告,設有兩場由課題組的學生及青年研究員參與的海報專場。

廣東省智能院院長、中國科學院院士張旭在開幕致辭時表示,希望透過本次專題研討會,為腦科學科研人員提供學術交流機會,促進大灣區乃至國內外腦科學研究的發展。

澳門大學認知與腦科學研究中心主任袁振教授在閉幕致辭時,對廣東省智能院組織本次專題研討會表示衷心的感謝,並期盼日後與廣東省智能院持續進行深度學術交流與科研項目合作。
