Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College successfully held the ‘Cultural Exploration Trip at Hong Kong’

In order to deepen students’ interest in Chinese culture and their understanding of Chinese traditional art, Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College (HFPJC) organized a cultural exploration trip in Hong Kong on 11 November under the leadership of Ms. Sara Chang, Resident Fellow of HFPJC, and Prof. Anna Vong, College Fellow of HFPJC and Associate Professor of FBA.

The delegation visited the Nan Lian Garden, to learn about the artistic features of landscape gardens in Tang Dynasty style. The “Chinese Wooden Structure Architectural Art Museum” which is located in the park displays models of nationally protected wooden structure architectural cultural relics. For example, the Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City of the Ming and Qing Dynasties used the mortise-tenon structure to build a majestic building without a single nail, and it still stands today. This shows the exquisite artisanship of ancient Chinese architecture and the wisdom of the ancients, which opens students’ eye-side.

The delegation also visited the Hong Kong Clock Tower and 1881 Heritage, to understand the colonial history of Hong Kong and also the story of the former headquarters of the Hong Kong Marine Police from the 1880s to 1996. The group then went to the Hong Kong Palace Museum for the precious cultural relics loaned by The Palace Museum in Beijing. While peeking into the life of the Forbidden City, students also appreciate the beauty of Chinese craftsmanship from artifacts. The museum is equipped with interactive devices that allow students to have a different Chinese cultural experience through modern technology.

After the cultural exploration trip, students expressed that they had a better understanding of Chinese history, experienced the charm of Chinese culture, and at the same time enhanced their sense of belonging to our country.
