主題一: 職業興趣探索工作坊

內容 透過自我探索活動和實用的生涯興趣測評工具,了解以下:

  • 進一步了解自己的職業興趣
  • 瞭解不同行業的職業特點
  • 認清未來職業選擇中可能面臨的挑戰

The Career Development Centre is organizing two workshops this semester to help students to explore themselves and prepare for career planning. As the objectives of these two workshops are the same, we suggest that interested students attend only one of the workshops. Details are as follows:

Topic 1: Discovering Your Occupational Interests
Date 12 March 2025 (Wednesday)
Time 14:30 – 16:00 (1.5 hours)
Venue Central Teaching Building (We will email the location of the workshop to the applicants.)
Language Mandarin
Contents Through various activities and a practical occupational assessment, participants can further explore and understand:

  • Occupational interests,
  • Characteristics of various occupations, and
  • Potential challenges related to future career choices and development
Application Period and Notes From now until 5 March 2025 (first-come-first-served basis)

  • After the closing date of application (i.e. after 5 March), we will send the workshop venue and interest assessment information to the applicants by email. Please follow the instructions in the email to complete the online assessment within the specified time, so that we can distribute the assessment report to the participants on the day of the activity.
Topic 2: Navigating Your Career Direction
Date 9 April 2025 (Wednesday)
Time 14:30 – 17:30 (3 hours)
Venue Central Teaching Building (We will email the location of the workshop to the applicants.)
Language Mandarin
Content 1. Complete the Big Five Model, which will help you to understand your personality better; 
2. Using the card sorting tool, explore the following 3 factors that are closely related to career planning,

  • Motivated Skills
  • Career Interest

  4. Students who attend the entire workshop do not need to pay the administration fee.

 

The workshops will count towards the Global Competitiveness area of the Whole Person Development Award Programme and Smart Point Scheme. Students who attend the entire workshop are eligible to receive “CS” and “SP”.

Postgraduate admission interviews are vital for showcasing your qualifications, goals, and suitability for a programme. Here’s how to avoid common mistakes and improve your chances of acceptance:

X Inadequate Programme Research

Understand the programme’s curriculum, faculty, recent research, and how it aligns with your goals. This shows genuine interest and thorough preparation.

X Unclear Objectives

Clearly articulate your short-term and long-term goals and how the programme helps achieve them. Articulate your aspirations to convey your vision and purpose.

X Rehearsed and Insincere Responses

Practise responses to common questions but aim to speak naturally. Be prepared to adapt your answers to the flow of the conversation, ensuring they sound genuine.

X Negative Talk on Past Experiences

Frame your experiences positively, even when discussing challenges. Focus on learning outcomes and personal growth, highlighting resilience and a constructive mindset.

X Unprofessional Appearance or Behaviour

Dress in business or business-casual attire, be punctual, and maintain polite behaviour. Good eye contact and business attire reflect your seriousness.

Vice-Chancellor’s Future Leaders Scholarships (2025 entry)

Newcastle University is pleased to offer Vice-Chancellor’s Future Leaders Scholarship awards for applicants from China who demonstrate outstanding leadership potential and apply to commence full-time Master’s studies on an eligible programme. These scholarships provide a 25% tuition fee discount for China and Macao students pursuing a postgraduate Master’s/MRes degree starting in September 2025.

An applicant can only apply and be considered for a scholarship after they have been offered a place to study on their chosen eligible full-time Master’s/MRes course at the University’s Newcastle city centre campus for the 2025/26 academic year and have been assessed as international for fees purposes.

For participants who have registered and attended the lecture, one Smart Point and 20 “Global competitiveness” (CS) will be given.

  • Students who attend the WHOLE activity and arrive ON TIME will be given one Smart Point, 20 “Global competitiveness” (CS).
  • Students who arrive late or leave early within 10 minutes will be given only half a Smart Point.
  • Students who arrive late or leave early over 10 minutes will NOT be given any Smart Point.
  • Students who leave the venue during the activity for over 15 minutes will NOT be given any Smart Point.
  • Students are required to check in/out of the activity with their valid Student ID Card.
