Macau Buddhism Foundation Scholarship – Calling for applications for Scholarships for PhD and Master’s Programs from 7 July to 25 July 2023

To support the University of Macau in cultivating talents and to promote the study of the history of religion and religious culture to support the establishment of “One Base (A base for exchange and cooperation where Chinese culture prevails, and diverse cultures coexist in Macau)” for Macau, starting from the academic year 2023/2024, the Macau Buddhism Foundation will provide scholarships to students of the University who are engaged in Macau studies. To promote relevant research and deepen society’s understanding of the historical development of religion and the unique culture of Macau. Details are as follows:

1.PhD Program Scholarship

1.1. A single Macau Buddhism Foundation Scholarship will be available for the PhD program. The scholarship recipient will be awarded MOP 50,000 per academic year for a maximum of four years, subject to an evaluation of their performance in each academic year. Representatives from the Centre for Macau Studies at the University of Macau and the Macau Buddhism Foundation will jointly select the scholarship recipient. The Centre for Macau Studies will notify applicants of the final decision.

1.2. Eligibility: The beneficiary of this scholarship must be a student who is currently enrolled in or has been admitted to a PhD program at the University of Macau. The thesis research should be related to the history of religious development in Macau, religious culture and other related topics.

1.3. Students must submit their applications for the PhD program scholarship. Applicants must send their personal resumes, past academic records, and doctoral program research proposals to CMS.scholarship@um.edu.mo. If necessary, applicants may be invited for an interview.

1.4. Scholarship recipients are required to sign the “Confirmation of Acceptance of the Macau Buddhism Foundation Scholarship” to accept the obligations associated with the scholarship.

  1. Master’s Program Scholarship

2.1       The scholarship recipient of the master program will be awarded a one-time stipend of up to MOP 10,000, with 5 available scholarships.

2.2       The applicant should be recommended by the supervisor. Representatives from the Centre for Macau Studies at the University of Macau and the Macau Buddhism Foundation will jointly select based on professors’ recommendations. The Centre for Macau Studies will notify the final decision to the applicants.

2.3       The applicants are required to send their supervisor’s recommendation letter, applicant’s personal resume, and past academic records to CMS.scholarship@um.edu.mo .

Macau Tung Sin Tong set up the “Macau Tung Sin Tong Scholarship” at the University of Macau in 2022. The objective is to support research on the history of philanthropy and social service development in Macao with the aim of promoting a continued tradition of philanthropy with Chinese culture and values in future generations.

The number of available scholarships will be one for PhD program. The scholarship recipient will be awarded MOP 50,000 per academic year for a maximum of four years, subject to an evaluation of the applicant’s performance in each academic year. The scholarship recipient will be jointly selected by representatives from the Centre for Macau Studies at the University of Macau and Macau Tung Sin Tong. The Centre for Macau Studies will notify the final decision to the applicants.

The Centre for Macau Studies (CMS) conducts the fourth seminar of “Educational Talk Series” at Escola Tong Sin Tong

The “Educational Talk Series” launched by the Centre for Macau Studies (CMS) of the University of Macau has successfully held the fourth lecture at Escola Tong Sin Tong on March 13, 2023. The guest speaker of this lecture is Dr. Danny Leong Chi Man, who is an Adjunct Lecturer of the Center. The topic of the current Educational Talk is “Using insect diversity to build a health assessment of Macao’s terrestrial ecosystem”. During the lecture, Dr. Leong introduced the value of insects to the ecosystem, the discovery of the tiny ants in Macao, and the ecological projects carried out in the Greater Bay Area to the secondary students of the school. In addition, Dr. Leong also shared his experience of becoming an entomologist in Macao, as well as his adventure stories of conducting insect research around the world. The school principal, teachers and students agreed that the lecture was very inspiring, especially Dr. Leong, who broke through difficulties through his own perseverance and finally became an entomologist. More than 100 teachers and students from the school attended the talk.

The school principal of Escola Tong Sin Tong, Wong Tak Chon, believes that the current students are lucky to be in the great era of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. By means of science and technology improvement that can realize the modernization of China. The country attaches great importance to science and technology. Relevant lectures can strengthen students’ interest in popular science. Principal Wong mentions that since the beginning of its establishment, Tung Sin Tong has been a charitable organization that loves the country and Macao. It has always made contributions in the historical process of the Anti-Japanese War, the founding of New People Republic of China, and the handover of Macao to the Motherland. He hopes that students can inherit the fine traditions of Chinese culture. Principal mentions that the spirit motto of Tung Sin Tong is “helping the world with one heart and spreading charitable spirit to everyone around”. In sum, it is very important for the student to cultivate the spirit of love the country and Macao, and love science. He encourages all students to become a useful person and contribute to the Macao society and China.

 

 

澳門大學澳門研究中心開展的「澳門學堂」,於2023年3月13日在同善堂中學舉行第四場講座,是次講座的演講嘉賓為本中心的客席講師梁志文博士,演講題目為「利用昆蟲多樣性建設澳門陸地生態系統的健康評價」。在是次講座中,梁志文博士向高中學生介紹了昆蟲對生態系統的價值、澳門細蟻的發現、在大灣區開展的生態項目等。此外,梁博士亦分享了他在澳門土生土長並成為昆蟲學家的經歷,以及在世界各地進行昆蟲研究的探險故事。同善堂中學的校長、老師、學生均認為是次講座很有啟發性,尤其是梁博士透過自身的堅持不懈突破困難、最終成為昆蟲學家,是對即將面對升讀大學的高中生的極大鼓勵。是次活動有逾百師生出席。

同善堂中學黃德進校長認為,現時的同學幸運地身處在中華民族復興的偉大時代,科技能實現中國的現代化,國家對科技非常重視,相關講座即可加強學生對科普的興趣。黃校長表示,從成立之初起,同善堂已是一個愛國愛澳的慈善機構,在抗日戰爭、新中國成立、澳門回歸等歷史進程中一直作出貢獻,他期望學生能傳承中華文化優良傳統和同善堂「同心濟世,善氣迎人」的精神,愛國愛澳,熱愛科學,做一個有用的人,為澳門社會和國家作出貢獻。

The Centre for Macau Studies (CMS) will conduct the “CMS Educational Talk Series” at Escola Tong Sin Tong

To further strengthen the connection with the society and the young generation, the Centre for Macau Studies (CMS) has launched the “CMS Educational Talk Series” at Residential Colleges & local high schools since 2022. This allows to build a platform to promote relevant information about Macao and Macao studies, so as to achieve the ultimate goal of “serving Macau”, with special attention to the high school kids and university students. 

The first “CMS Educational Talk Series” of Year 2023 will be held at Escola Tong Sin Tong on March 13. At that time, Dr. Danny Chi Man Leong, a local biologist from Macao, will be invited to share the “Health evaluation of using insect diversity to build Macao’s terrestrial ecosystem”, and to have direct interaction and exchange with the school kids.

為進一步加強與澳門社會和年輕一代的聯繫,澳門研究中心於2022年推出 “澳門學堂” 書院及中學教育講座系列,藉以搭建平台宣傳澳門和澳門研究的相關信息,以達至“服務澳門”的最終目標。

2023年首場“澳門學堂”書院及中學教育講座將於3月13日在同善堂中學舉行。屆時邀請了澳門本地的生物學家梁志文博士,分享有關 利用昆蟲多樣性建設澳門陸地生態系統的健康評價,並與該校學生進行教育講座以及交流互動。
