Regarding Recent Performance Issues on Internet Services

有關近期互聯網服務的效能問題

尊敬的用戶:

最近,資訊及通訊科技部(ICTO)留意到本校互聯網服務效能存在問題,尤其是在連接部份內地網站時,出現無法存取或響應緩慢。經調查,問題主要源自其中一間為本校提供互聯網網絡服務供應商(ISP)的效能未如理想所引致。

ICTO在 9 月初已將有關問題向相關 ISP 反映及強調其嚴重性,但改進仍未理想及不夠顯著。為此,我們近日再與相關ISP的高級管理層召開了進一步會議,對方承諾會作出一系列相應行動及在短時間內積極進行網絡改善。為應對現時需求,我們已採取緊急措施,暫時向另一間 ISP 調配更多資源以緩解校內用戶需求。

該供應商的網絡服務正在逐步改善。ICTO將持續監測網路服務的表現並進一步優化。

Dear Users,

Recently, ICTO was aware of performance issues on our University’s Internet services, especially unable to access or slow response in certain websites in Mainland China. After investigation, it showed that it was mainly caused by the unsatisfied performance for one of the Internet Service Provider (ISP) that provides Internet service to our University.

ICTO had reported the issues to ISP in early September and emphasized its severity, but the improvement is not significant nor satisfactory. Therefore, a meeting was held with their senior management lately, and they had committed to take corresponding actions and make network improvement proactively within short period of time. To cater current demands, ICTO has allocated more resources to another ISP to fulfill the demands from our users as a contingency.

The network service from that ISP was improving. ICTO will keep monitoring the performance and continue to implement optimization on Internet Services.
