ICTO Service Introduction: Microsoft Teams

As Zoom no longer sold its service to University starting from January 1st, 2025 (For details, please click here), to ensure continuity of online collaboration, ICTO is actively working on providing Microsoft Teams as a transitional solution to address your needs.

Microsoft Teams Client (Windows) has been deployed in ICTO’s computers. If you fail to install Teams client or cannot see the Microsoft Teams icon on your desktop, please visit here.

Some common features about Microsoft Teams

How to sign in?
  1. Click Microsoft Teams Client on your desktop.
  2. Click the Sign in Button.
  3. Input your UM email address and click Next.
  4. It will redirect to UMPASS authentication page. Please enter your UMPASS account name and password.

How to schedule a meeting?

Instant Meeting:

You can start an instant meeting either through the Microsoft Teams app or Microsoft Outlook

Schedule Meeting:

You can start schedule meeting through Microsoft Outlook

How to join a meeting?

Instant Meeting:

Click the meeting link to join the meeting. You can choose Continue on the browser or Join on the Teams app to start the meeting.

 

Schedule Meeting:

Please go to your calendar on your Outlook. Find the Teams Meeting and click on it, then click the Join Teams Meeting button.

 

How to record a meeting?

In your meeting controls, select More actions > Record and transcribe  > Start recording.

Learn more and getting help with Microsoft Teams:

Last but not least, according to current policy of Zoom, you may still join Zoom meeting hosted by others or registered a free basic account using your personal email address to host multi-parties meeting for up to 40 minutes.

您應該知道什麼:

  • 2024 年 12 月 31 日之後,與您的 UM Zoom 帳戶關聯的所有資料將永久刪除且無法存取。
  • 2024 年 12 月 31 日之後,任何指向您即將舉行的Zoom預定會議和雲端錄製的超連結都將失效。

您應該做什麼:

  • ICTO 強烈建議您在 2024 年 12 月 31 日之前雲端錄製內容從 Zoom Cloud 下載到本機磁碟機(如有必要)。

We regret to inform you that Zoom Communications, Inc. has recently notified us that they will no longer provide its services (i.e. Meeting, Webinar, etc.) to the University starting from January 1st, 2025, due to their sales policy changes.

What You Should Know:

  • All data associated with your UM Zoom account will be permanently deleted and cannot be accessed after December 31st, 2024.
  • Any Zoom links to your upcoming scheduled meeting and cloud recording will not work after December 31st, 2024.

What You Should Do:

  • ICTO strongly recommend that you download your Cloud Recording from Zoom Cloud to a local drive, if necessary, before the end of December 31, 2024.

How to download Zoom cloud recordings?

  • UMMoodle’s Zoom Meeting Plugin will also be disabled. You can use the following method to add Team’s meeting link.

Regarding Recent Performance Issues on Internet Services

尊敬的用戶:

最近,資訊及通訊科技部(ICTO)留意到本校互聯網服務效能存在問題,尤其是在連接部份內地網站時,出現無法存取或響應緩慢。經調查,問題主要源自其中一間為本校提供互聯網網絡服務供應商(ISP)的效能未如理想所引致。

ICTO在 9 月初已將有關問題向相關 ISP 反映及強調其嚴重性,但改進仍未理想及不夠顯著。為此,我們近日再與相關ISP的高級管理層召開了進一步會議,對方承諾會作出一系列相應行動及在短時間內積極進行網絡改善。為應對現時需求,我們已採取緊急措施,暫時向另一間 ISP 調配更多資源以緩解校內用戶需求。

該供應商的網絡服務正在逐步改善。ICTO將持續監測網路服務的表現並進一步優化。

Dear Users,

Recently, ICTO was aware of performance issues on our University’s Internet services, especially unable to access or slow response in certain websites in Mainland China. After investigation, it showed that it was mainly caused by the unsatisfied performance for one of the Internet Service Provider (ISP) that provides Internet service to our University.

ICTO had reported the issues to ISP in early September and emphasized its severity, but the improvement is not significant nor satisfactory. Therefore, a meeting was held with their senior management lately, and they had committed to take corresponding actions and make network improvement proactively within short period of time. To cater current demands, ICTO has allocated more resources to another ISP to fulfill the demands from our users as a contingency.

The network service from that ISP was improving. ICTO will keep monitoring the performance and continue to implement optimization on Internet Services.

為了更好地滿足研究目的需要下載大容量檔案的需求,資訊及通訊科技部特別設立了一個高速網路試用專區。這個專區提供更快速、穩定的網路連接,供下載大容量的檔案,以提升網路體驗。

 

位置:資訊及通訊科技部服務中心(E5-2084)外

頻寬:最高達到300Mbps(上下載)

服務時間

  • 星期一至星期五:早上八時至晚上八時
  • 星期六:早上八時至下午一時

由於資源有限,教職員和學生需要透過IT服務管理系統進行申請。

一旦申請獲得批准*,ICTO 收到後,需 2 個工作天的處理時間。

*申請者學生,請輸入導師的用戶名稱作為審核者。

Wi-Fi:請連線至 SSID「UM_HighSpeed_WLAN」並使用您的 UMPASS 使用者 ID 和密碼登入。

有線:請使用現場工作台上提供的網路線並使用您的 UMPASS 使用者 ID 和密碼登入。

In order to better facilitate the demands for downloading large data files for research purpose, ICTO setup a high speed Internet area as trial. This area provides a faster and more stable network connection for downloading large files to improve network usage experience.

Location: Outside ICTO Help Desk area (E5-2084)

Bandwidth: Up to 300Mbps (upload & download)

Operating hours:

  • Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

As resources are limited, staff and students need to apply via IT Service Management System.

Once the application is approved* and received by ICTO, please allow 2 working days for processing.

* For students, please input your supervisor user ID as the approver.

Wi-Fi: Please connect to SSID “UM_HighSpeed_WLAN” and login with your UMPASS User ID and Password.

Wired: Please connect to the network cable available on the working table at the area, and login with your UMPASS User ID and Password.

Details

During the replacement period, the power supply of primary data center will be suspended to ensure the safety of construction personnel. Most of the ICT services will be provided by secondary data center without interruption, except the following services which will be suspended during the above period:

  • Open Data API Platform
