On June 19, 2025, a delegation of principals from private primary and secondary schools in Shanghai, organized by the Principal Training Center of the Ministry of Education, visited and held an in-depth discussion with the Faculty of Education (FED) at the University of Macau (UM). Before the meeting, both parties exchanged souvenirs to express warm welcome and a sincere commitment to future collaboration.

Prof. Mingming ZHOU, Associate Dean (Research) of FED, delivered the opening welcome speech. She expressed the faculty’s great honor in receiving the delegation, viewing the visit as a valuable opportunity to strengthen mutual understanding and explore further collaboration. Prof. Zhou emphasized FED’s consistent commitment to a dual focus on teaching and research, with significant progress made in faculty development, curriculum design, and community service. She also introduced the mission and organizational structure of the faculty, and highlighted the upcoming programme in Artificial Intelligence and Education, which reflects FED’s proactive response to technological innovation in education. In addition, she shared FED’s wide range of teacher professional development initiatives, such as the “Training Programme for Primary and Secondary School Principals and Teachers,” which exemplifies the faculty’s dedication to social responsibility. Prof. Dongbo ZHANG, International and External Partnership Leader of FED gave a presentation on the development vision, recruitment status, and research areas of the Doctor of Education (EdD) programme. Prof. Zhaowei KONG, Associate Dean (Teaching) of FED also addressed the delegation, briefly introducing the faculty’s recent research progress across multiple domains.

Prof. Lili LIU, Deputy Director of the National Training Center for Secondary Principal, then outlined the center’s development history and organizational structure. She noted that the center has evolved into a comprehensive platform integrating teaching, research, and practice, thanks to robust policy and academic support. Prof. Liu also introduced the members of the delegation one by one, highlighting their diverse backgrounds as both front-line school principals and academic researchers. She expressed hope that the visit would foster in-depth dialogue and mutual learning in both educational philosophy and research practice.

Both sides engaged in lively exchanges on how to integrate teaching and research in teacher education, and how to coordinate professional development for school leaders and teaching staff. The delegation spoke highly of FED’s achievements and expressed strong interest in future collaboration. This visit not only strengthened the ties between Macao and mainland China’s education communities, but also laid a solid foundation for more substantive cooperation in the future.
