Movie “Life Goes On” UM Screening Successfully Concluded
To commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, the “A Time of Flames. A Long Song of Light —‘Life Goes On’ UM Screening” was successfully held on 11 September 2025 (Thursday). The event was jointly organized by the Association of Publication of Cultural Education of Macao and Southern Film Culture Foundation, with co-organization by the University of Macau, Sil-Metropole Organisation Ltd., CCTV-6, and Oral History Association of Macao. It was funded by the Cultural Development Fund of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government and marked the first time the organizers held a special screening at a local university.
The documentary film “Life Goes On”, directed by Xiao Mei and Dong Li, focused on the touching stories of how schools in South China—such as National Sun Yat-sen University and Lingnan University—upheld their educational ideals during the wartime years. The event opened with welcome remarks by Dr. Alex Lai, Vice President of the Association of Publication of Cultural Education of Macao.
The screening not only recreated the hardships faced by South China’s education institutions during the war, but also deeply explored the vital role of education in times of adversity. The film serves as both a reflection on history and a prompt for future contemplation. The University of Macau has consistently been committed to advancing educational development and encouraging students to persevere in the face of challenges. Through this film, the hope is to inspire more students to revisit the values of education and cherish today’s learning environment and opportunities. This event was not only a tribute to the history of the war of resistance but also a reaffirmation of the value of education, allowing students to reflect on the past while looking toward the future.
Guests attending the screening included Mok Kai Meng, Vice Rector of Unibersity of Maca, Paul Pang, Dean of Students, Lau Yun Tung, Master of CKPC, Wong Seng Fat, Interim Master of CYTC, Wong Man Chung, Master of CKLC, Cheung Kwok Cheung, Master of MCMC, etc.
