MCM College: Guia Lighthouse Cultural Excursion –  Exploring the Beacon of History

On 13^th September, 2025, Guia House of Moon Chun Memorial College, University of Macau organized a meaningful cultural excursion, leading 20 students to one of Macau’s iconic landmarks—the Guia Lighthouse. The activity aimed to deepen students’ understanding of local history and cultural values, enhancing their sense of belonging and cultural identity.

Participants first strolled along Guia Hill jogging trail, enjoying the refreshing natural environment, relaxing both body and mind, and appreciating the scenic views that highlight the unique blend of urban and natural landscapes in Macao. The group then visited Guia Lighthouse and the adjacent Chapel of Our Lady of Guia. Guided by a professional tour guide, they explored the historical evolution of the lighthouse since its construction and its significant role in Macao’s development. Inside the Chapel of Our Lady of Guia, the guide explained the religious background and architectural features of the church, and shared basic knowledge about Catholicism. The tour also included an introduction to the tradition and history of the typhoon signal system, giving students deeper insight into Macao’s meteorological culture.

To conclude the activity, the group visited a nearby local restaurant to enjoy authentic Portuguese-style cuisine, further experiencing Macao’s unique food culture. Through this event, students not only visited a famous local landmark but also gained a richer understanding of Macao’s history and culture, strengthening their connection and sense of identity with the local community.
