To celebrate the 45th anniversary of the University of Macau, the University of Macau Moon Chun Memorial College organized the “Empowering Education and Career Advancement: An Experiential Journey into the National Industry-Academia-Research Base” academic initiative. Designed in three parts, the program begins and ends with exchange visits between the two schools, as well as an in-depth exchange visit to the corresponding National Industry-Academia-Research Base, each time on a different theme. Through a series of visits, seminars, and hands-on sharing sessions, the program helps students broaden their horizons and connect academic research with industrial development.

Pui Ching Middle School Visits UM

To kick off the exchange, teachers and students from Pui Ching Middle School were invited to visit the University of Macau, where they toured the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (SKL-IOTSC) and the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI (SKL-AMSV). Under the guidance of expert professors, participants gained an in-depth understanding of UM’s research achievements and practical applications in cutting-edge fields such as the Internet of Things, smart cities, and chip design.

Afterwards, the delegation visited Moon Chun Memorial College and exchanged ideas with UM students. Both sides shared their thoughts and expectations about the upcoming visit, starting up an academic conversation between the students from both schools.

Visit to Shenzhen

The delegation then embarked on a two-day, one-night visit to Shenzhen, touring multiple national-level industry-university-research bases, including renowned technology enterprises, innovation platforms, and research institutions. Students observed firsthand the practical application of cutting-edge technologies in industry and engaged in discussions with corporate representatives and researchers, gaining a deep understanding of the transition from campus theory to workplace practice and the challenges and bridges between “academics and the workplace.”

Return Visit to Pui Ching Middle School

Following the completion of the visit, a delegation of UM students and faculty paid a return visit to Pui Ching Middle School’s FabLab and the Science & Innovation Center to learn about the school’s achievements in science and innovation education, hands-on practice, and interdisciplinary learning. Teachers and students from both institutions once again exchanged ideas, continuing the academic and innovative dialogue between the two schools.

At the conclusion of the activity, participants attended a sharing session, where they reflected on the gains and inspirations from their trip to Shenzhen, and were presented with participation certificates, bringing the exchange activity to a successful close.

This event not only celebrated the 45th anniversary of the University of Macau but also deepened the collaboration between UM and secondary schools, strengthened students’ understanding of national industry-university-research development, and laid a solid foundation for future talent cultivation and industry-academia linkages.
