On March 25, 2026, the preliminary round of the “Voice of Moon Chun” singing competition at Moon Chun Memorial College, University of Macau, came to a successful conclusion. The competition attracted many talented singers from the college, with students enthusiastically cheering for their favorite contestants. The atmosphere was electric, filled with continuous applause and cheers.

The competition consisted of two stages: the preliminary round and the final round. Each contestant prepared two songs for their performances. We extend our sincere gratitude to our non-resident fellow, Professor Katrine Wong from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, along with college fellows Dr. Peggy Lau and Ms. Alice Hong for serving as judges. They not only applied their professional expertise to select this year’s “Voice of Moon Chun” finalists but also provided detailed guidance and constructive feedback throughout the competition. From vocal techniques and emotional expression to stage presence, every participant gained valuable insights. The judges themselves expressed great satisfaction in witnessing the students’ passion for music and their tangible progress—noting that this was the most rewarding part of being involved.

After rigorous scoring by the judges combined with audience voting, six contestants—Xu Pengze, Hu Kaiyi, Tsang Pui Chio, Peng Tianyu, Cheng Siyu and Li Xiyue—stood out and advanced to the final round. They delivered a diverse repertoire of exciting performances at the college’s “Prime of Youth” talent show on April 11. Following intense competition, Cheng Siyu was crowned champion, Peng Tianyu won first runner-up, and Tsang Pui Chio claimed second runner-up.

For the participants, this competition was not merely a contest but a starting point for growth. Many contestants shared afterward that the judges’ guidance helped them handle songs with greater subtlety and boosted their confidence on stage. They will carry this valuable experience forward as they continue to explore and improve on their musical journeys.

With the successful conclusion of this year’s competition, everyone has already begun looking forward to next year’s “Voice of MCMC.” Whether it’s familiar faces who have graced the stage before or new voices about to emerge, there is a sense of anticipation and hope. We believe that future competitions will attract even more passionate singers from the college, allowing the flame of music to be passed down year after year, blooming with ever more brilliant light.
