UM students win top prize at the ‘Challenge Cup’

Students of the University of Macau (UM) participated in the ‘Challenge Cup’ National College Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Contest. The five participating projects of UM stood out from more than 400,000 entries from all over the country and won a top prize, a first prize, a second prize, and two third prizes. UM once again was the only higher education institution in Macao to win both top prize and first prize in the contest.

Zhong Zhangfeng, and Chan Ging, professors at UM’s Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS), were the head and the deputy head of the Macao delegation to the Challenge Cup. They led students of several Macao higher education institutions to take part in the contest. Zhou Naiyue, Chen Guoqi, and Gong Ying, students at UM’s State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (SKL-IOTSC), Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), and Institute of Collaborative Innovation, respectively, won a top prize for their project on a smart elevator system based on IoT edge computing and multi-dimensional security monitoring The team designed and developed the project under the guidance of Yang Zhixin, associate professor in FST. In addition, guided by Hui Hongxun, research assistant professor in SKL-IOTSC, students Chen Lunshu, Wang Kexin, Liu Xiaotian, Li Jiahe, He Kecheng, and Zhang Jiayu in SKL-IOTSC developed their project on an energy management system for large-scale aggregated regulation of user-side load and captured a first prize in the contest. In addition, FST students Lee Chon Fai and Zhang Zhenghao were awarded a second prize for their project. Two student teams, one formed by ICMS students Shi Rui Peng, Li Sichen, Zheng Wenying, and Chen Xiaoyi, and another formed by Wong Sam Ut, and Edison Fong Cheu, received a third prize respectively.
