Dear colleagues and students,

UM has been committed to enhancing the global competitiveness of its students. This issue of My UM explores how the university enrich students’ international exposure through forging partnerships with higher education institutions worldwide, cross-cultural and interdisciplinary teaching and research platforms, and attracting outstanding international students. In our People’s Story column, we feature an interview with Yang Yilin, a UM doctoral student. She played a pivotal role in securing China’s first gold medal in the women’s team all-round event at the 2008 Olympics. However, her gymnastics career came to a halt in 2013 when she suffered a back injury. Ten years later, transitioning from an Olympic champion to now a doctoral student, Yang has discovered a new purpose in life: to help young athletes pursue their dreams.
