CKPC Down Syndrome Buddy Group sending New Year’s blessings and greetings to Down Syndrome Families

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year, CKPC’s Down Syndrome Buddy Group and the Macau Down Syndrome Association jointly organized a visit to send winter warmth and New Year blessings to the Down Syndrome families, who seldom join our activities.

We mainly visited 10 families, who live in different districts of the Macau Half Peninsula. Members of the group were divided into five groups and brought the New Year gifts prepared by the Association and the College to visit the families. It was the first time for the members to visit the Down Syndrome families. During the activity, we got to know more about the children and their family. Volunteers chatted with them, and we warmly exchanged greetings.

At the end of the visit, the team members returned to the Association and had a sharing. Some students said they were deeply touched by the visit as they witnessed how some families live in a really small house. They not only gained a more realistic sense of social life, but also learned to pay more attention to the underprivileged groups in the society. Some other students were touched by the love that parents have for their children. Some elderly parents still care about the future of their children and realized that they should be grateful to their parents for their contribution to the family. One of the mothers said she was in her 70s and her child was 50. She hoped that she and her child could live for another ten years, and then her child would go first and she would leave two days later. In this way, she would not have to worry. Members of the group realized that in recent years, Macao has greatly increased its efforts in helping the disadvantaged groups, and that the facilities and care services in schools and houses have been improved continuously, which has reduced the burden of the families of these disadvantaged groups. We look forward to giving more care and love to the disadvantaged groups in the future. As volunteers, we hope that we can stretch our hands further.
