2024年1月29日至2月3日,澳門大學演講隊的兩位學生在在印尼雅加達參加了由2024亞洲英語奧林匹克組委會和BINUS英語俱樂部(BNEC)舉行的2024亞洲英語奧林匹克(AEO)。
AEO是亞洲高中生和大學生中最具規模的年度英語競賽之一,此次比賽分為辯論、新聞廣播、演講、拼字比賽、講故事、廣播劇等8個項目的比賽。這是一次國際性的挑戰,來自亞洲的多個國家的選手參加了本次比賽,有菲律賓,印尼,韓國和中國等。今年的主題“Ascend Your Olympus” (攀登你的奧林匹斯山)旨在鼓勵個人成長並追求自己的最高願望和潛力。這個激勵人心的主題敦促人們追求自己的目標,克服挑戰,並達到自己個人成功、卓越或實現的巔峰。
澳門大學演講隊派出參賽的選手是來自工商管理學院、何鴻燊東亞書院的一年級學生李響同學和工商管理學院、呂志和書院一年級學生楊艾同學。在本次比賽中,兩人獲得了團體賽第五名的成績並在個人演講比賽中進入了四分之一決賽。參賽後,她們表示:“通過比賽,我們不但可以展示英語技能,也能與來自不同亞洲地區的英語愛好者進行交流、豐富了我們的國際見識。”
這次參賽對演講隊隊員來說,無疑是一次寶貴的國際交流經歷。她們在比賽中見識到不同亞洲地區選手在英語技能和文化思維上的差異,同時也擴寬了自己的國際視野。澳門大學演講隊將利用此次寶貴經驗,在日後的訓練和比賽中持續提升自己,日後為澳大爭取更佳成績。

The Public Speaking Team of the University of Macau participated in the 2024 Asian English Olympics
From 29th January to 3rd February, 2024, two students of the Public Speaking Team of the University of Macau participated in the 2024 Asian English Olympics (AEO), which was held by the Organizing Committee of the 2024 Asian English Olympics and Binus English Club (BNEC) in Jakarta, Indonesia.
AEO is one of the largest annual English competitions for high school and college students in Asia. This year’s competition included eight events such as debate, news broadcasting, speech, spelling bee, storytelling, radio drama, etc. It was an international challenge with competitors from multiple countries in Asia, including the Philippines, Indonesia, South Korea, and China. This year’s theme “Ascend Your Olympus” aimed to encourage personal growth and the pursuit of one’s highest aspirations and potential. This inspiring theme urges people to pursue their goals, overcome challenges, and reach their personal peak of success, excellence, or fulfillment.
The competitors representing the Public Speaking Team of the University of Macau were a first-year student Li Xiang from the Faculty of Business Administration and the Stanley Ho East Asia College, and Yang Ai from the Faculty of Business Administration and the Lui Che Woo College. In this competition, they achieved a fifth-place finish in the team competition and advanced to the quarterfinals in the individual speech competition. After the competition, they said: “Through the competition, we not only had the opportunity to showcase our English skills but also to interact with English enthusiasts from different Asian regions, which greatly enriched our international perspective.”
This participation was undoubtedly a valuable international exchange experience for the members of UM Public Speaking Team. They gained insights into the differences in English skills and cultural thinking among competitors from different Asian regions, while broadening their international horizons. The Public Speaking Team of the University of Macau will use this valuable experience to continuously improve themselves in future training and competitions, and strive for better results in the future.
