UM Public Speaking Team 2024/2025 Recruitment (Application deadline: August 22, 2024)

Introduction

UM Public Speaking Team (UMPST), which was founded in 2008, aims to provide an excellent chance for its members to learn public speaking skills, improve English language proficiency, develop creative thinking, enhance the confidence among students in making speeches in public, and promote English on the campus. Proactive attitudes, persistent efforts, a sense of responsibility and teamwork among all the members are the team spirit that we advocate.

We will provide not only professional training but also chances to discover and apply the knowledge gained during training through practicing and communicating in an active atmosphere. Besides speaking, members are also encouraged to THINK as thinking helps generate new ideas and opinions. We also encourage students to observe more local and global issues. Without an understanding of global issues around this changing world and the local issues that everyone should be keenly aware of, the speaker will hardly deliver a substantial and sparkling speech that creates echoes from the audience. We welcome all undergraduates, regardless of nationality, major, and so forth, to join the UM Public Speaking Family!

Activities and Competitions

Aside from weekly training and team activities, the members also represent UM in speech competitions. For instance, in the school year of 2023-24, several of the champions of the 22^nd Macao-wide English Speech Contest, 2024 UM-wide English Speech Tournament, and Asian English Olympics have been trained in UMPST, and we also had a member go on to the final rounds of the 21^st National Century Cup. In the school year of 2024-25, we plan to join many more public speaking tournaments, including the Macao Youth English Speech Contest, Beijing FLTRP Public Speaking Tournament, and the Asian English Olympics.

Training Schedule

• Every Thursday night from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm;
• Other special trainings according to the university schedule.

Members’ Obligations

• Attend our weekly trainings (and additional training, if applicable);

• Be an active member who cooperates well with the others in the team;
• Remember and follow the U-Team regulations (will be instructed in Orientation) and instructions from the team coach and leaders.

Undergraduate of UM; Interested in public speaking; Good command of both written and spoken English applicants; Hard-working and cooperative; Willing to participate in competitions and team training; Gives time for the team

活動與比賽簡介

除了每週固定的訓練之外，本隊幾乎每年都會組織隊員們一起參加澳門大學校內、英語演講大賽亞洲英語奧林匹克比賽、全澳英語演講大賽、及「21世紀杯」全國英語演講比賽等等。

訓練時間

• 每週四晚上七點半到九點。
• 其他安排依據澳門大學校曆及具體訓練安排調整。

正式隊員可享有以下福利

• 每週接受專業教練指導以及參加國際演講大師工作坊（免費）。

University of Macau Chinese Orchestra is currently recruiting new members! If you possess expertise in a specific instrument, this is an opportunity you should not miss!

By joining the University of Macau Chinese Orchestra (UMCO), you will have the chance to participate in high-level performances both on and off-campus. Each year, we host a special concert at the University of Macau. Additionally, the orchestra collaborates with renowned Chinese orchestras from prestigious institutions such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, The University of Hong Kong, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Notably, each section of the orchestra is guided by professional instructors from the Macao Chinese Orchestra, providing members with ample learning opportunities.

UM English Debating Team is now recruiting new members!

Can you convince others and change their perspectives within just 7 minutes? This is the magnificence of English Debating. Here, debaters need to analyze the debate in depth within 15 minutes, make reasonable judgments, balance different values, conduct benefit analysis, and maintain an open attitude to different views. 澳門大學合唱團現正招收新團員！

澳門大學合唱團簡介
澳門大學合唱團是澳門具有規模的大專院校合唱團。創立於2004 年、以豐富澳門大學校園合唱音樂文化、推廣合唱藝術，及為學生提供高質素的合唱音樂演出為宗旨。除定期舉辦校園音樂會外，更經常與本澳及外地高質素的合唱團及樂團同台演出。近期之演出包括：2015年11月參加國際合唱聯盟世界合唱博覽會並分別獲得A組銀獎和B組金獎；2016年4月23日與管弦樂隊呈現“且歌且行”校園音樂會。2018年10月赴北京參加中國國際合唱節，並於國家大劇院表演。2021年5月更前往四川成都參與第六屆大學生藝術展演活動並獲一等奬。

團員福利及義務

UM Choir is now recruiting new members!

Introduction of UM Choir
Established in 2004, University of Macau Choir is the largest university choir in Macao SAR. It aims to enrich the music culture in UM, to promote chorus music, and to provide high-quality music performance for all UM members. Besides organizing regular concerts within the campus, it has also worked with other domestic and oversea choirs. Recent performances include: IFCM World Choral Expo, participated in November, 2015, with winning a Silver Medal in the Category A as well as a Gold Medal in the Category B; campus concert “ With Music Along the Music Journey”, presented in April, 2016. In October 2018, UM Choir were the first Macau high school and troupe to perform at the National Centre for the performing arts for Beijing International choral festival. In May 2021, UM Choir participated in the “6th National College Arts Exhibition” in Sichuan, China with winning a First Prize. 

Benefits & Obligations

Members can enjoy the benefits listed as below:

• Attend rehearsals and access to musical knowledge and guidance;
• Participate in the cultural exchange with local and overseas choral groups;
• Being nominated to participate in the summer exchange programmes with or without subsidy;
• Having the opportunity to participate in other activities related to UM Choir;
• Members with 80% or higher participation rate will be awarded the SPECIAL “A” of Art in the Whole Person Development Award Programme.

Members are obliged to:

• comply with Choir regulations;

Training & Practice Schedule:

• 19:30-22:30 every Wednesday (voices rehearsal) and;
• 19:30-22:30 every Friday (voices rehearsal) and;
• other temporary rehearsals before performance.

Eligibility:

• Interested in choral music, enjoy team work and able to attend all training and rehearsals;
• Interviewees who have basic musical knowledge and prior choral singing experience will be considered as priority.

UMCDT is dedicated to promoting Cantonese debating activities and collaborating with local and Hong Kong tertiary institutions to enhance debating skills and facilitate exchanges. 

Welfare and Obligation of UMCDT Members
Those who are officially admitted to the UMCDT can enjoy the following welfare:
– Join our training and gain the instructions of debating skills for free.
– Enjoy the chances to be recommended to take part in the Summer Programmes and get subsidies.
– Enjoy the chances to take part in various activities and competitions regarding UMCDT.
