第一屆澳門英語辯論公開賽圓滿結束

由澳門大學英語辯論隊、澳門大學學生會英語辯論協會及國際青少辯論和演講協會主辦的“第一屆澳門英語辯論公開賽”於二月二十四及二十五日在澳門大學學生活動中心劇場順利舉行。

為了讓大賽選手有更加充分的準備,邀請了世界知名辯手為選手提供免費培訓,培訓時間為二月十六日至二十二日,在線舉行。邀請到的講師包括世界冠軍、劍橋大學的David Africa,亞洲冠軍、馬尼拉典耀大學的Rivaldo Aquino,歐洲冠軍、都柏林聖三一學院的Jack Palmer,以及全國冠軍、澳門大學的李佳能。培訓內容涉及人工智能、經濟以及倫理學。培訓講座深受參賽選手喜愛,每場出席人數均超過一百人。

大賽設公開組、新手組和中學組三個組別。比賽先進行了五場循環積分賽,而後按積分排行晉級。公開組晉級十六支隊伍,進行四分之一決賽,進一步比拼後八支隊伍進入半決賽,最後晉級四支隊伍在總決賽角逐總冠軍。新手組及中學組晉級八支隊伍,開展半決賽。兩個組別最後均有四隊晉級至總決賽,爭奪各組別的冠軍。賽事設公開組、新手組與中學組總決賽冠軍及公開組、新手組與中學組最佳辯手六項獎項。

在六十六支隊伍的激烈的角逐後,來自工商管理學院、鄭裕彤書院的朱帥榕晉級公開組決賽,來自科技學院、曹光彪書院的Omar Kassana Jimenez Ali和社會科學學院、霍英東珍禧書院的張楷晉級公開組四分之一決賽;來自人文學院、蔡繼有書院的王熙睿、社會科學學院,張崑崙書院的王思哲,教育學院、霍英東珍禧書院的吳翊諾,人文學院、馬萬祺羅柏心書院的李宛軒晉級新手組決賽;來自人文學院、紹邦書院的李紫軒,人文學院、鄭裕彤書院的王含玉,人文學院、蔡繼有書院的張幼溪,人文學院,紹邦書院的梁巧妮晉級新手組半決賽;來自人文學院、鄭裕彤書院的王含玉,社會科學學院、張崑崙書院的王思哲,社會科學學院、滿珍紀念書院的陳俊鍇,分別獲得新手組第二、第三和第五最佳辯手。

澳門英語辯論公開賽的前身為澳門大學新手杯,受疫情的衝擊一度轉為線上舉辦。作為疫情後第一次線下比賽,主辦方增設了公開組和中學組,吸引了大量港澳及內地的高水準辯手參賽。澳門大學英語辯論隊的同學在激烈的競爭中唇槍舌劍,脫穎而出,助力推進澳門地區高校英語辯論賽事的發展。同時,參賽者們表示,他們不僅從經驗豐富的裁判們收獲了寶貴的建議和激動人心的線下比賽體驗,還獲得了參觀澳門大學這所高等院校的機會,飽覽了澳門繁華秀麗的城市風光。澳門英語辯論公開賽還給參賽者們提供了認識來自五湖四海的朋友的良好平台,令大家在切磋中增進友誼,並在比賽結束時約定:期待與你在下一次比賽相見!

 

 

The first Macau Debate Open 2024 was held successfully

Organized by the UM English Debating Team (UM EDT), UM Students’ Union English Debating Society (UMSUEDS), and the International Youth Debate & Speech Association (YDSA), Macau Debate Open 2024 (MDO 2024) was successfully held on February 24th and 25th at the Student Activity Center Theater of the University of Macau.

In order to provide participants with comprehensive preparation, the organizing committee invited world-renowned debaters to offer free training. The training sessions took place online from February 16th to 22nd. Esteemed speakers included David Africa, the World Champion from the University of Cambridge; Rivaldo Aquino, the Asian Champion from Manila De La Salle University; Jack Palmer, the European Champion from Trinity College Dublin; and Li Jianeng, the National Champion from the University of Macau. The training covered various topics including artificial intelligence, economics, and ethics. The lectures were highly appreciated by the participating contestants, resulting in attendance exceeding one hundred people per session.

The competition consisted of three categories: Open, Novice, and School categories. The event commenced with five rounds of round-robin matches, followed by advancement based on accumulated points. In the Open category, sixteen teams progressed to the quarter-finals, from which eight teams emerged to compete in the semi-finals. The top four teams from the semi-finals then competed in the Grand Final for the ultimate championship title. Similarly, in the Novice and School categories, eight teams advanced to the semi-finals. Ultimately, four teams from each category advanced to the Grand Final, vying for the championship titles in their respective categories. The competition culminated with the presentation of six prestigious accolades: the Grand Final Championship titles for the Open, Novice, and School categories, as well as the distinguished recognition of the Best Debater award in each category.

After fierce competition among 66 teams, Aaron, Zhu Shuairong from FBA & CYTC advanced to the Grand Final of the Open category. Omar Kassana Jimenez Ali from FST & CKPC, as well as Zhang Kai from FSS & HFPJC, reached the quarter-finals of the Open category. Siri, Wang XiRui from FAH & CKYC, Archie, Wang Sizhe from FSS & CKLC, Norah, Wu YiNuo from FED & HFPJC, and Leanna, Lei Un Hin from FAH & MLC, advanced to the Novice Grand Final. In the Novice category semi-finals, Ciara, Li ZiXuan from FAH & SPC, Marvin, Wang HanYu from FAH & CYTC, Usee, Zhang Youxi from FAH & CKYC, and Jacqueline Leong Hao Nei from FAH & SPC, made it through. Additionally, Marvin, Wang HanYu from FAH & CYTC, Archie, Wang Sizhe from FSS & CKLC, and Jack, Chen Chon Kai from FSS & MCMC, were awarded the 2nd Best Novice Debater, 3rd Best Novice Debater, and 5th Best Novice Debater, respectively.

Macau Debate Open (MDO), formerly known as the University of Macau (UM) Novice Cup, was temporarily shifted to an online format due to the impact of the pandemic. As the first offline competition after the pandemic, the organizers introduced the Open Division and School Division, attracting a significant number of highly skilled debaters from Hong Kong, Macau, and mainland China. Students from the University of Macau English Debating Team (UM EDT) showcased their eloquence and wit amidst intense competition, contributing to the advancement of English debating in the Macau region. Participants expressed their gratitude for the valuable advice provided by the experienced panel of judges and the thrilling offline competition experience. It was a great opportunity for debaters to visit the University of Macau, while immersing themselves in the vibrant and picturesque cityscape of Macau. Macau Debate Open served as an excellent platform for participants to forge connections with friends from diverse backgrounds, fostering friendships through intellectual exchanges. As the competition came to a close, participants eagerly agreed: “We look forward to meeting you again in the next competition!”
