CKYC Business and Dining Etiquette Workshop

On 2nd February 2023, Choi Kai Yau College (CKYC) was pleased to invite Ms. Jeanette Chan, the Chair of the Macao International Etiquette Cultural Association to host a Business and Dining Etiquette workshop for the college students. This workshop covers workplace behavior, networking, formal dining skills, and dress code, in order to help students be equipped with the basic etiquette tools for the upcoming formal hall dinners.
During the workshop, Ms. Chan provided students with the knowledge of basic rules of etiquette that can help enhance their professionalism, such as introducing themselves, and how to shake hands or greet others. She also mentioned that right standing position could enable proper eye contact with others, whereas this could also generate a more approachable vibe. Ms. Chan also invited a few students to role-play some scenarios in formal settings.
Apart from business etiquette, Ms. Chan also introduced the elements of dining etiquette, ranging from proper place settings and use of cutlery to posture and the art of small talk. She mentioned that the way we eat reveals a lot about us, including how we hold the knife and fork, where we place the napkin, and how we sit. She also showed the students different types of cutlery for different occasions.
By the end of the workshop, students have learned to apply professional techniques to enhance their self-image. In fact, whether we are eating in a fancy restaurant or at home with friends and family, a good table manner is a courtesy and can make dining a more pleasant experience. Ms. Chan concluded the workshop by stressing that, “A great first impression helps getting off to a good start”.
