Campus Tour at Sun Yat-sen University
UM Basketball Teams won 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up at
“1st Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Sports Alliance Basketball Competition”
In celebration of the establishment of the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Sports Alliance”, UM Basketball Teams were being invited to participate in the “1st Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Sports Alliance Basketball Competition”, which was held from 14 to 16 Jul in Guangzhou. The competition invited the 4 founding Universities of the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Sports Alliance”, including Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and University of Macau.
A total of 12 men’s basketball members and 10 women’s basketball members were selected to represent the university in this competition. After 2 days of intensive matches, the UM Men’s Basketball Team won the 1st runner-up and UM Women’s Basketball Team won the 2nd runner-up at last.
The Rectors from the 4 founding Universities attended the award ceremony and presented the awards to the basketball team members. While, Rector of UM, Prof. Yonghua Song, presented the award to our UM Basketball Team members.
Aside from the intensive basketball matches, the members of UM Basketball Team conducted a campus tour at Sun Yat-sen University, where they toured the famous Swasey Hall, the statue of Sun Yat-sen, and the Yichou Scholar Archway on the campus.
The competition results are shown as below:
16 Jul (Mon) – Match I
Men’s Group: South China University of Technology vs UM – 48:68 (UM won)
Women’s Group: UM vs The Chinese University of Hong Kong – 44:84 (UM lost)
17 Jul (Tue) – Match II
Men’s Group: The Chinese University of Hong Kong vs UM – 80:71 (UM lost)
Women’s Group: UM vs South China University of Technology – 43:30 (UM won)
Final Result
-UM Men’s Basketball Team: Silver Medal
-UM Women’s Basketball Team: Bronze Medal
